Chapter 1: Fractured Innocence Childhood Memories The sun’s warm rays streamed through the cottage window, casting a tender glow upon Kaidën’s young face. He sat cross-legged on the wooden floor, his curious blue eyes fixed on his mother, Aria. Her long, golden hair fell in waves down her back, catching the light like strands of molten sunlight. “Mother, tell me about my father,” Kaidën said, his small voice full of eagerness and wonder. A wistful smile touched Aria’s lips, but her eyes clouded with a mixture of sorrow and reminiscence. “Your father, Kaidën, is a great and powerful being,” she began, her tone almost reverent. “He is not of this world—he’s a god, and his duties often call him far from us.” Kaidën’s eyes widened, his mind racing to grasp the enormity of her words. “A god?” he echoed, barely believing. Aria’s nod was slow and deliberate, as though revealing a carefully kept secret. “Yes, my dear. And you, Kaidën, bear his legacy, the blood of divinity runs in your veins.” Growing Pains Years flowed like a restless river, and as Kaidën grew, so too did his strength and agility, setting him apart from the other village children. He moved with an innate grace, his senses alert to every rustle in the undergrowth and every shadow that flickered across the path. He began to feel as though he could hear the heartbeat of the earth itself. One day, the village lay beneath an ominous stillness. The wind held its breath, and the birds were silent as if some unseen danger had tainted the air. A feeling of unease gnawed at Kaidën, sharpening his senses. Suddenly, a scream sliced through the silence. “Mother!” he cried, sprinting towards home with a speed that left the world a blur. Aria stood in the front yard, her eyes fixed on the darkening horizon, her expression grave. “Kaidën, go to the cellar,” she commanded urgently, her voice edged with panic. “Now!” But Kaidën froze, every nerve in his body alive with warning. Before he could react, a band of armed men from a neighboring town, faces twisted with malicious intent, descended upon the village. “Run!” Aria’s cry was a desperate plea, her eyes wide with dread. Chaos and Destruction The tranquility of Kaidën’s world was shattered in an instant. The familiar faces of his neighbors twisted with terror as they fled or fell beneath the merciless onslaught. Aria grabbed Kaidën by the wrist, her grip unyielding as she dragged him towards the safety of the cellar. “Hide, Kaidën! Hide!” she urged, her voice breaking. They reached the cellar door just as a rough hand seized Aria’s shoulder, jerking her backwards. “No!” Kaidën’s scream was raw, filled with a fear he had never known. Aria’s gaze met Kaidën’s, filled with a desperate urgency. “Run, my son. Forgive me,” she whispered. In that fleeting moment, Kaidën felt the surge of something powerful within him, a force that exploded from his small frame. First Blood Kaidën launched himself at the attacker with a fury that belied his age. A wave of raw elemental magic burst from his hands, and the very air seemed to tremble as his power awakened for the first time. The attacker fell, crumpling under the onslaught, but there was no time to savor the victory. As Kaidën turned, a sight more terrible than he could bear greeted him. His mother lay crumpled on the ground, her lifeblood staining the earth. “Mother!” His voice cracked as he cradled Aria’s limp form, tears streaming down his cheeks. “Why?” he pleaded, his young heart breaking. Aria’s eyes flickered open, just for a moment. “Forgive…me, Kaidën,” she breathed, her words a dying whisper. “Your father’s legacy…seek others like you.” And then she was gone, leaving Kaidën alone in a world that had suddenly become much darker. Fractured Innocence Kaidën’s childhood had ended in that single, devastating moment. His innocence lay shattered amidst the ruins of the village. The invaders fled, leaving nothing but ash and sorrow in their wake. As the cold darkness of night settled over the village, a spark ignited within him—a vow, forged in grief and fury. He would find the ones who did this, and he would find those like him, for his mother’s dying wish had lit a fire in his heart that would not be extinguished. End of Chapter 1
