The stench of dirt and something far worse—rotting, nauseating decay—filled my nose. I fought to pry my eyes open, but it was a struggle. My whole body screamed with pain, and I could tell something was wrong with my ribs. Broken, maybe. My arms hurt, my head pounded, and a wave of nausea threatened to overtake me.
