Chapter 1

1034 Words
“Mommy? Mommy! Please don’t let them take me away mommy! Please! Don’t let them take me away”  My eyes flung wide open and  tears came streaming down on my cheek. A flashback from my past has made it through my dreams again. This is the 4th nightmare this week and waking up with sweat and a pounding heart isn’t good. I looked at my side table to check the time and it’s still 3:47 am. I moved my blanket aside and it’s freezing, I forgot to open the heater before going to bed. I keep forgetting it’s already fall season, I sat on my bed for a few minutes before standing up to go to the bathroom. I looked at the mirror and said to myself,  “Eww. Have I always been this ugly? Kids might even run away when seeing me like this” I have these dark circles under my eyes like I haven’t slept for ages, I’m basically a zombie.  I took the glass that was on top of my sink and filled it up with water. But the pipes started making noise as I opened the faucet, as I thought the problem with the water pressure wasn't fixed yet. I got myself back to bed and tried sleeping for a few hours before getting ready for work at 7. I woke up exactly before 7 am, right before my alarm would ring. I got up and fixed my bed before hitting the showers. Finally the water and heater are on my side today! What a nice shower time I'll have today. I got my favorite body wash and it has a peachy-lemon scent. It makes me feel refreshed and brings back some memories when I was younger. My grandma used to make those kinds of flavored cakes. Oh no wait, the water is starting to come out slow again! I better remove all the suds and bubbles all over my body before water runs out. It’s so annoying that I get to pay rent and bills in full price but the service is poor. I mean what would I expect with an apartment like this.  Now that I'm clean, it’s time for me to prep my skin and do make up. I went to my dresser and pulled out my drawer where I put my brushes and cosmetics. Some of my brushes look disgusting, I better clean them next time. Putting on my makeup was one of the things I really love to do. I did my brows, added some brown eyeshadow,  After doing my makeup that zombie like image is finally gone. Looking at my reflection I’m pretty happy with what I'm seeing. Time to get dressed, As I scroll through my wardrobe my eyes fall into this gray cardigan that I’ll use with a white v-neck shirt underneath along with a pair of denim jeans and some ankle boots. Let me add this red scarf too in case I get chilly. I went to the mirror to give myself a final look. My straight black hair was fixed after brushing it a few times and I gave myself a smile then I started practicing my lines.  “Welcome students! I’m Aubriana Jacobs but you can call me “ Ms. Brie” and I'll be your teacher.” I’ll finally go to work and I took a deep breath, I grabbed my bag and double checked if I turned everything off because the electricity bill ain’t cheap. Having $3000 only as a monthly paycheck isn’t that enough for all the bills I have to pay monthly. Thinking about how I can get by day to day is already stressing me out. What a Monday! “ Should I get myself another job? Hmm.” As I opened the door I saw a cat with two black spots above his nose and was trying to look behind me. I think he was eyeing at my betta fish. I better lock the door quickly before this cat gets in and eats Ms. Pinky who is happy living in peace in her tank. “ Oh no, I think I forgot to feed Ms. Pinky! I have no time. It's almost 8. Sorry Ms. Pinky!”    I locked the door and shooed the cat away. Walking down the pathway to go to where my car is parked which is a bit far from my apartment unit because I couldn’t afford one that has an individual garage. The scent of freshly cut grass greeted me, I stopped for a minute just to smell it. A sudden smile came into my face because a flashback popped into my head. I just remembered how I loved reading books in the grass when I was younger. Oh no wait I better get going because I'm running late.  I got in my car and drove off the parking lot to the main road. There wasn’t much traffic, thank goodness. I turned the radio to listen to some music, “ Life goes on by Oliver Tree” was playing. What a chill song and makes me remember that life’s really going to go on. I passed by some apartment complexes, a church, a hospital, more fast food chains and finally I reached “Pride and Glory Montessori Wonderschool”. Time to find a vacant parking space, I drove around a bit to find a vacant one. Children are already running inside the school. I checked the pocket of my bag if I brought my emergency kit because I might get anxiety when facing the other teachers. I took a deep breath before getting out of my car and fixed my scarf. I stood in front of the school for a few minutes before going inside. The building kinda reminds me of the White House because of the color and it’s structure. It has two sets of stairs before getting to the main entrance and it also has a flag pole in the middle.  “ The stairs itself is already a workout. Good luck to my weak legs.” I finally got up the stairs and I was catching my breath. The bell rings, time to get in.
