LUCIEN We turned off the fire and scattered the ashes on the hill, then, I led them towards the place of the secret tunnel whose entrance was up the hill. They followed me in silence, but all wary of what I was up to because many of them lacked the wisdom of the pack and the knowledge of the hill which were hidden in the old books of the pack. The tunnel’s entrance was east, so, I led them east on the hill, and when we got there, we saw nothing. Some of them who had been briefed on what I was up to giggled while they watched me gaze at the ground in what they thought was confusion. The tunnels were built thousands of years ago; there are chances they had been covered by sand and rocks; those were what I assumed were their thoughts. I walked around a spot and stopped to look at them,
