Crista had decided not to swim and chose to gather pearls from the cave on the beach instead because the first thing we saw when we got here was a girl getting yanked under the water by a mermaid. No, she wasn’t drowned. According to Brynna, mermaids liked to pull swimming humans below the surface of the water if they wanted to show them something interesting or if they just felt like messing around. The girl that had been yanked under had come up again shortly after she was yanked down and even though she didn't look traumatized by what happened, Crista vehemently refused to get into the water.
So here I was now, watching her gather pearls that Ariana would use to make necklaces for us a couple of metres away while I kept kicking water to keep myself above the surface. Merecer
