Father? " Kidd repeated. Mya looked up and locked eyes with him.

"Yes father." He extended his hand "Mike Watkins"

Kidd shook his hand "Kidd" Mike nodded.

"So who are you to my daughter? "

"Her boyfriend" Kidd replied.

"Oh ok. How long y'all been together? "

"A year next month on the 22" Kidd replied. Mike nodded and stayed quite. Hours passed and a doctor still hasn't come out. Kidd stood up and walked to the front desk. "Excuse me"

The nurse looked up and smiled "Yes, how can I help you?"

"Can you give me an update on my girlfriend Jayla Watkins and my brother D Simmons?" he asked. The nurse nodded and began typing on her computer.

"Ms.Watkins doctor should be coming out soon but as for Mr.Simmons, he just got out surgery and his doctor will be out shortly also"

"Thank you" Kidd said before walking away. About an hour later, a tall white doctor walked out. He had green eyes and a few freckles.

"Family of Ms.Jayla Watkins and D Simmons" he called. Kidd, Mya, Mike and La all stood up. "Ok Mr.Simmons, he's fine and stable. We performed surgery and removed the 2 bullets that hit him in his thigh and shoulder."

"Can I go see him please?" La asked. The doctor nodded and told her the room number. She rushed off.

"Now for Ms.Watkins" the doctor sighed "The bullet entered from her back and went out her stomach. As y'all know she was pregnant. The bullet went through the fetuses head, killing him instantly. We stopped the bleeding and removed the remains of the baby but during the surgery, she slipped into a coma from losing a lot of blood. It would have been different if it was a medically indosed coma because then I'll be able to give a period of time where she'll wake up. But I can't. It could be days, months or even years."

Mya broke down crying. Kidd held Mya and cried silently. Mike sighed and cried also. "Can we go see her?" Mya asked, her voice cracking.

"I'm sorry but you'll have to wait a few days. She just coming out of surgery and we want to give her a medicine to see if she'll wake up" Everyone nodded. Mya and Kidd walked outside.

"I'll call you when I'm comin to see her so we can go together" Kidd said. Mya nodded and slowly walked to her car. Kidd sat on the bench outside and put his head in his hands.

He promised Jayla he had her back. He promised her that nothing would happen to her. He promised he would protect her but she ended up in a coma.

She got shot, their baby died and she in a coma. He didn't protect her. He's the reason she in a coma. He's the reason she lost her baby. He's the reason she got shot.

He felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see the nurse from the front desk. "Are you ok?"

"I'm fine" he said lowly. The nurse rubbed his back.

"It's better if you talk things out. Holding them in isn't good"

"It's all my fault. My girl was shot, lost the baby and is in a coma because of me. All cause of me. I promised her I'll protect her and she ended up in a fuckin coma." he cried. The nurse hugged him and let him cry on her shoulder. She rubbed his back. After he calmed down, she spoke.

"You can't blame yourself for this. I remember when I was younger, my mom always told me everything happens for a reason. So all you need to do is keep your promise to her. Protect her. When she wake up, and yes she will wake up, protect her like your life depends on it" she said softly. Kidd nodded "you really love her huh?"

"Hell yea man. She my everything. I love that girl with all my heart and then some. I can't lose her. If I do, I don't know what I'll do. " he confessed.

"How about this, I'll let you go see her ok? Come on" the nurse pulled Kidd up and snuck him into Jayla's room.

She knew she could get in trouble, even fired, but she felt like Kidd needed to see Jayla. The nurse walked Kidd to Jayla's room and gave him some alone time.

He looked over her. Her hair wasn't wild and curly like it usually is, her skin looked pale and her lips weren't soft like they usually were.

He pulled up a chair next to her bedside. He grabbed her hand and sighed "I'm not sure if you can hear me or not but I feel like I need to get this off my chest."

He sighed again "I'm sorry I couldn't keep my promise. I should have been there to protect you. I should be the one in this hospital bed, not you. But I swear on my life when you get out of here, you'll be safe Jay. Uh- I'm not sure if you know or not but the baby is gone. Doctor said the bullet went through his head and killed him. Yeap, we were having a boy. But if you still want to have a baby, I'll give that to you." He felt himself tearing up. "Jayla I love you so much. You're my everything and I don't know if I'll be able to get through life without you. I live to see your smile and hear your laugh baby and if I don't see that gorgeous smile or hear your cute laugh, my life has no meaning." He caressed her cheek. "All I want to do is cater to you and make you happy. All you need to do is wake up for me Jay. Please. That's all I need" he pecked her lips "I love you and I'll come back to see you when the doctors allow me"

Kidd walked down the hall of the hospital towards D room. "Aye my nigga wassup" D greeted. Kidd laughed and dapped him then hugged La. "How you holdin up?"

"I'm good but could be better" he sighed.

"How's lil dawg?"he asked, referring to Jayla.

"The baby died and she slipped into a coma"

"Damn" D and La said together. "Just give it time. I'm sure she'll wake up soon" La said.

"Yeap then y'all can f**k all over the place" D said. La slapped his chest. "To get another baby. Damn La, you heavy handed as hell"

"Stop sayin stupid s**t nigga. Kidd, she'll be up soon then y'all can finish off from where y'all started"

Kidd nodded as the conversation changed. About an hour later, a doctor came to check on D. "The pain should subside in a bit from the medicine. You'll be in the best sleep of your life also" he smiled. The doctor turned his attention to Kidd. "You're here for Ms.Watkins right? "

"Yes, how is she? She good?"

"She's good actually. We tried this new medicine on her and she responded to it just fine. So she should be awake soon" Considering it was Friday, Kidd thought of a perfect welcome home gift.

"Ok thanks" Kidd replied, smiling from ear to ear. The doctor walked out.

"Aww Kidd, You're smiling so big" La cooed.

"Of course, my baby waken up soon" He called Mike, Jayla's father, and Mya to tell them the news he just received. "Iight, I'll see y'alll tomorrow" Kidd said as he got up to leave. He dapped D and hugged La.

"Bye" the nurse from earlier called as Kidd walked past the front desk.

"Bye, and it's Kidd"

"Lacy" she smiled. Kidd hugged her and thanked her then left.
