Prologue

"Ben, come on, it's bedtime." His grandma made his messed-up bed. "Only if you continue that story, Grandma." He said, turning the tiles of the Rubik's Cube. "Which story?" Grandma asked lazily as she sat on the bed. "Werewolves...that the goddess was tricked by the beast and the twins were born to them, a boy and a girl," Ben said. Ben clucked his tongue and said, "Last night only you told me that story, Grandma, how can you forget?" His grandma smiles, "Your grandma is old now, hon, but she hasn't forgotten the story." She can never. "Okay, then what happened?" "Then..the goddess realised that the twins were not just humans and that they had supernatural qualities like sharp sight, sense of smell, just as her mate. She then realised that, though having celestial powers, she couldn't guide the twins, and that could only be done by her mate, the beast. She went back with her kids in search of him, and when she found him, they forgave and accepted each other as soulmates, they marked each other and became the mother of werewolves, eventually King and Queen, as they built the Kingdom of werewolves. But werewolves were wild, violent with the human brain, body and animalistic character, they were more powerful than any human or wolf in general. They were naturally strong, fast, and had incredible sensing power. Every werewolf has a mate for life, and they are more powerful with mates. Mate bonds are the sacred bonds that cannot be destroyed by any god or demon. But power, ego, and greed are things that can destroy everything. They started to fight among themselves." "Why?" "Because when we think we are superior, there are two options: one to be kind to others and support the weak. Second, the Power to rule them, control them. That is what they did, they craved for power. They tricked the rules, broke the sacred promises, their betrayal annihilated the sacred bonds between mates...which caused the death of their other halves. Their sorrow and unfaithfulness disrupted the balance and harmony in nature. This brought great sorrow to the moon goddess. She blamed it on herself. Since they didn't regard the core principles, she thought it needed to be corrected. But how?" "How, Grandma?" Ben asked curiously. "Like a mother corrects her child." Ben blinked clueless. "After analysing, she came to a decision. The decision to discipline her children. Since they were betraying their mates, she wanted to teach them in their own way. She made some rules." "Rules, again?" "Yes. Rule No. 1. Werewolves cannot identify their mate on their own; their scent or eye connection would not help. 2. Werewolves can only produce their heir with their true mate. Even if they produce pups with the other that is not their mate. The pup doesn't survive for long or will have severe disability." "Oh, that's cruel," says Ben. "She did...what she thought was right." says the Grandma. "Grandma?" Ben called sleepily. "Hmm?" "Are werewolves real?" "No, they are myths." She pulled the blanket over him and kissed him on his forehead before closing the door behind her.
