Vexley Drayke
The Dean’s words feel like a bucket of cold water is emptied on my face. I stagger out of his office, weak and numb.
Oh… Goddess, I am going to drop out of school. I am ruined. Completely.
I blink hard, hoping this is nothing but a nightmare I will wake up from, but when I open my eyes… it is real.
I should try calling my father. Yes… I should explain everything to him… maybe, just maybe, he will understand that everything that happened is beyond my control.
I quickly retrieve my phone from my jean pocket, my trembling fingers hovering over the screen as I dial his number, but each time it ends without a beep.
He blocks me.
I dial his number again, tears dripping down my face onto the phone. “Father… please pick up,” I wail. “Please…”
Still not connecting.
Angrily, I smash my phone on the wall, the sound of it shattering echoing through the corridor. I press my hands to my hot face, bawling my eyes out as I sit on the bare floor of the quiet, cold corridor.
Minutes pass before I hear sharp approaching footsteps. It would be more humiliating if any student catches me, so I quickly swallow my sob, wipe my tears and look up only to see Cassian towering over me.
I clench my fists tightly as fury courses through me. Everything happens because of him. I push myself up and hissing, I try to walk past him but his voice stops me.
“I heard what happened, Vex.”
“Don’t you dare call my name, you bastard!” I seethe. “All of this wouldn’t have happened without you.”
The corner of his lips lifts in a devilish smirk. “You do not have an identity anymore. You are about to lose everything—your place at the college and ice hockey. If I were you, I would mind the tone I use to speak to the one person that can save me.”
“You? Save me?” I know he is just playing with me.
He nods. “Yes, Vex.” That nickname makes my stomach churn. “I can save you.”
I stare at him intensely and his arrogant expression gives nothing away. “How?” I hate that I even consider it, but I do not have a choice.
“Well… if you follow me to my office, we can discuss properly.”
“Sure, I will follow you but if I realise that you are just pulling my leg, I will forget the fact that you are an Alpha. I swear I will kill you at all costs, then kill myself.” I am not even kidding.
I have lost everything, I have no one by my side, so there is nothing left to be afraid of.
He lets out a short laugh. “Relax, little wolf. Let’s go.” He tries to sling his arm around my neck but I shove him away and walk off towards his office while he trails behind me.
“So how do you intend on saving me?” I ask the moment he sits on the edge of his desk. My voice is quite desperate because I am running out of time.
“I can speak to the Dean to let you stay in school. Under my protection and terms.”
“Under you?” I yell, frustrated at the unclear words. “Can you f*****g tell me what that means?”
He pushes himself off the table and closes the distance between us. “Well… I want you to know that in just a day since you rejected me, I cannot get your tight and juicy p***y off my mind. So I want you to be mine again. Just s*x. No strings attached.”
My jaw drops, then I let out a humourless laugh. “You’re joking right?”
He does not respond; his steady expression gives me all the answers.
“Then you must be crazy, Cassian.” My voice rises with unrestrained rage as I remember everything. “You must be stupid to think I would ever want anything to do with you after everything you made me go through. It is like you do not even know how much you disgust me just by breathing the same air as me. I would rather jump off a cliff than let you touch a strand of my hair.”
“Oh… is that so?” he sneers, voice dripping with mockery. “Then you should have no problem dropping out of school then.”
I part my lips to speak again but the door twists open. “Hey, Cassian. The new coach—” When Ryker’s eyes—Cassian’s Beta—land on us, his words die in his mouth. His gaze flicks between us before he waves at me slowly. “Hi, Vexley.”
“Hi,” I reply, my voice tight even though Ryker has always been kind to me.
He faces Cassian squarely. “The new coach is here.”
Right, Coach Daniel retired. He said yesterday was his last match. He even planned a send-forth party but I could not attend.
Ryker continues immediately. “But that is not even the catch. The catch is… can you guess who it is?”
“Who?” Cassian asks, bored and still angry at the interruption.
“It’s your uncle.”
“What?!” Cassian’s eyes widen in horror. “My uncle?”
Ryker nods firmly. “Yes, and he told us to converge at the rink immediately.”
“f**k…” Cassian storms out without sparing me a glance.
This is the first time I see the arrogant bastard so worked up. Who is this uncle of his?
I rake my hand through my hair, wondering if I should go to the rink or not since I might drop out anyway. But after much contemplation, I decide to go. My life is not over yet. I might still find a way to stay in school. I can do anything except being Cassian’s w***e.
Never.
Ever.
I walk out of the office, slamming the door shut.
—————
The hockey team stands kitted in their uniforms as they wait for the coach. Everyone is curious about who it is, except Cassian. He is pacing around restlessly….
Minutes pass… until a figure dressed in a blue coach uniform skates into the rink. The silence is almost deafening as everyone waits for him to remove his helmet and when he does…
My breath hitchs.
Same piercing hazel eyes.
Same sharp jaw.
It is no other person than Severin.
The man from last night who consoled and f****d me is the new coach and also… my ex-mate’s uncle.
The team members cheer. Cassian stands frozen like he has just seen a ghost. As for me, my thighs tremble as memories from last night slam into me.
Then his lips curl into a taunting smirk when his eyes find me. Before I know what is happening, he starts skating towards me.
I quickly lower my head, twisting my fingers like I always do anytime I am nervous.
“Hi, Vexley,” he says. “Now things just got complicated, didn’t they?”
