I see Calliope gracefully striding out of the water toward me with her hands outstretched. Her blonde hair is whipping in the salty air, and her naked body is glistening with droplets of sea water. “Come back to me,” she sings, “You’re mine.” I reach toward her, almost as if driven by an unseen force. Just as our fingertips are about to touch, I sit up straight in my bed, gasping for air. What the hell was that? Why would I be dreaming about that murderous siren? It makes no sense. I scratch my head sleepily and blink my bleary eyes. It was just a dream. It doesn’t mean anything. I stretch out my stiff muscles and look around, but Bethea is gone. I frown in confusion, my eyes darting around the room. Why would she leave? Maybe she didn’t want anyone to know that we slept together.
