“s**t!” I mutter under my breath as I watch Calliope try to wrestle a vampire queen. It’s not much of a match-up, and she’s started a battle I wasn’t ready to fight yet.
My mind is racing, calculating my next move when I see her open her mouth and move to bite my ally.
She’s so fast. Faster than me.
I aim my wand at her, shouting an immobilization spell. “Prohibere!” I yell just as her teeth sink into Calliope’s neck.
The magic lands on the vampire queen, and I can see her slowing down, resisting it with all of her immense power. She’s still moving, though, and still impossibly strong. She’s not completely immune to my spells… but she can fight them. It will take a few more seconds before I can cast something else, so I just have to hope this one holds long enough. I hav
