Returning Home

*CALLIOPE* I swim back toward the home I’ve known for so long, trying as hard as I can to be excited. Relieved. But nothing feels right. Everything is… off. Like my whole world has been shifted on its axis and I won’t be able to rest until it’s upright again. When I approach the sanctuary made of radiant-colored coral, shells and rocks, I let out a deep sigh. It’s totally abandoned.  At least I’ll be at peace. A few fish swim in front of me, and I pause long enough to let them pass. They look so… at home down here. Why is it that I feel like an outsider no matter where I go? I enter our underwater palace and head for my throne room. Maybe sitting in my chair of power will help this deep feeling of unease in my belly.
