His little Mate

Chapter 9.

•Kane•

I headed to the walk in closet in the room. Planning to get dressed for our date before I go see her dad would be the best move, as I don’t know when that meeting will adjourn. I pull on a pair of khaki pants, and a white button up shirt. I locate my loafers and slide them on. Adding the last touches, I head out to meet her father in his office. As I approach the door to Brents office, I hear Josh, Rays brother speaking.

‘Dad, somethings wrong with Ray, I heard her screaming last night. I went to check on her thinking someone was attacking her, but she was having nightmares.’ I hear him say. I also heard her screaming. She must have had more nightmares after I left the first time.

‘When she is ready, she will come to me. I saw the bruises. Give her time.’ Brent said. I knock twice.

‘Enter’ Brent says. I open the door, shutting behind me, he motions me to sit down.

‘Any news on the cabin?’ he asks. I have to word this wisely, as Ray isn’t ready for everyone to know what happened to her. I don’t even know what happened to her, and I plan to ask her what I can tonight at dinner. I know she was there, and judging by the rooms I saw there, it was a gruesome torture chamber. I stare at him.

‘It’s a torture cabin of some sorts. I know the King was there as Rose caught his scent, whoever was there. Is alive that we know as the only bodies found were guards. Rose did catch another scent, and we are looking into it, she will be tracking for the next few days, and I have come to make sure she is okay to stay here and do the job I need her to do’ I tell him.

‘of course, I will speak with Ray and let her know of the plans.’ Brent says. I watch as his eyes glaze over, probably mind-linking Ray.

He turns back to me and smiles.

‘I heard you are taking my daughter to dinner, I find this wonderful as she is becoming the next Alpha. This will be a great opportunity for you two to grow the alliance’ I glance at him, he doesn’t know we are mates. When you find your mate, it’s very hard to keep your hands to yourself. Which Ray and I have done very well. Between whatever has happened to her, and what has happened to me. It’s very easy to ignore the bond. It is becoming harder, as the bond does pull us each other, but this isn’t like it was with my first mate. We couldn’t keep our hands off each other. With Ray, I have this undying urge to protect her, to claim her as mine, the bond is there, but not as strong.

‘I am.’ I say glancing at my watch.

‘I should be going to meet her now, I thank you for your alliance and allowing Rose and I to work here, to put an end to the Rogue King.’ I say standing up and walking towards the door.

‘My home is open to you.’ He replies as I shut the door closed behind me, leaving Josh and him to be alone. I walk towards the great hall, and catch a smell. Lillies.

She’s close Kent says. I follow the smell of her and find her standing at the door, dressed in a very beautiful navy blue dress, her back on display, against her skin there I see faint white lines of scars.

What happened to you, little one. I think to myself, knowing that she was in the cabin, makes my blood boil. I saw the devices of that cabin, I know some of the things I saw there could have made those marks. I see her move her hand up, I follow her movement as she grasps where my mark will be one day, looking at her face, I see that she’s far away with a grimace on her face.

Time to get out of here, Kent says as I start to walk towards her.

I can feel the burn on my neck, I touch it with my cold hand, it doesn’t do the desired effect. It feels like I’m burning, like my whole body is on fire. I shiver from the onslaught of emotions Ry is throwing at us. The helplessness she felt for not being able to help, to help tear his neck apart. The uneasy feeling, knowing what could have happened if the wolfbane didn’t suppress her. That’s what saved us from being marked, the wolfbane suppressed my wolf making it impossible to take me by force. Had Ry been on the forefront it might have stuck. Shivering again, as I remember the poison the kings bite brought, and how I nearly died. I didn’t though, that’s what happens when you are brought poisoned food. You become immune, you get sick if you eat it to fast, but if you do it nice and slow, and in small quantities, you can overcome it. When wolfbane wasn’t being pumped into my system, and Ry was able to come forward, I was able to heal, and not get as sick as I should have been. He didn’t want me dead, he wanted me to torture, I gave him nothing. No sound ever left my mouth as he hooked me to the ceiling, no sound ever came from me as he sliced and cut my skin open. Trapped in my thoughts, I start to shake, Ry feeling the urge to shift. The demand from him. The Rogue King echoing in my head.

You will shift when I tell you too, and you will shift. NOW. As he shocks us. Ry howling in my head, I lean forward to put my hands on my knees.

Ry, you need to calm down. He isn’t here we are safe. I soothe her. I feel a warm hand touch my back, tingles follow. I know it’s Kent, mate bonds make us feel those tingles. I look up to find him staring.

‘Are you alright?’ he asks, worry clear in his voice. I take a deep breath, and shudder once more as the cold starts to leave my body, Ry purring at the contact of our mate.

‘yes, fine. Thank you. Are you ready?’ I ask him as I turn to head for the for the door.

‘Yes, I am let’s go’ he says and follows me. Opening the door and allowing me to go first. I step out onto the porch, inhaling deeply, I look towards the woods. Longing etches it’s way into my heart. Two years of being in wolf form really does a number on you. Wanting to be free and wild of all the responsibilities.

Ry, we will go for a run later. I need to do some tracking of my own. I tell her and Kent ushers me down the stairs to the waiting BMW in the driveway. He opens up the passenger door for me, and I slide into the seat, buckling myself. Kent walks around and slides into the driver side. He starts the car and heads out of the driveway, turns right and we head out of the village of the pack.
