Chapter 6 On my days off, I decided to take a hike around the lake. My truck had finally arrived, so I packed some gear and drove to a clearing at the edge of Elk Pond. It was a large lake, but apparently everything smaller than the Pacific Ocean was called a pond in these parts. I grabbed my backpack and headed along a deer path, until I eventually came to a small clearing. The sun shone brightly, so I dropped my gear and walked to the shore. I took off my shoes and waded in. Damn, that was so much warmer than I expected for this time of year. I looked around, peeled off my clothes, and dove in. I hadn’t swum naked since I was a kid, and it felt great. After I exhausted myself, I went back to the clearing, spread a towel, and stretched out naked to dry off under the brilliant sunshine.
