He reached out and removed her earphones. "Are you deaf? I have been calling you nonstop for minutes! And here you are, listening to worthless music when you should be working! What kind of employee are you? Leave your dreamy land and get to work. Now!"

Sally bought some chicken on her way home. When she got in, Becky opened the door and flopped down on the sofa after placing the chicken on the table.
"Girl, you are dead late. What happened this time?" Becky asked. " Did you meet men from Mars? Or you had a surprise business trip to Egypt?"
"My terrible boss happened. He is such a pain. We worked all evening, and I do not know how I can keep working for him," Sally moaned. "He makes sommuvb demands. And I am sick of his attitude."
"No, girl, you have to be strong. You will do great in this job. I hope he paid you for the night?" As soon as Becky said "for the night," Sally recalled Edmund's lips saying those exact words. The memory echoed in her mind until she couldn't take it anymore, so she covered her ears with her hands.
"Are you alright?" Becky asked. "Hey girl, tell me what is going on. Talking about it can help."
Sally jumped to her feet and ran into the other room, shutting the door behind her.
"What has gotten into that girl?" Becky wondered aloud.

Edmund got home and took a shower, his mind preoccupied with the earlier incident in the office. He had noticed how Sally had frozen when he got close. She could not even blink. For some reason, he had enjoyed that moment. There was something innocent about her eyes and even her smile. He imagined she was the type of girl in college who hardly went to parties and preferred to spend her time reading. Yes, she seemed innocent.

The next day, Sally did her best to avoid Edmund. She sent all the documents he requested through his secretary, feeling embarrassed about the events of the previous day and not wanting to see Edmund's face.
Edmund was puzzled by her behavior, so he decided to ask his grandmother that evening. While they were having dinner, he asked, "Granny, a friend of mine has a question, and I do not know how to answer it."
"Go on, son. I would love to help," Granny replied. "Your grandma has a lot of experience. In the eighties, I was a hottie. Numerous men wanted me. If your grand father was alive, he would tell you."
"So there is this friend of mine who just started talking to a lady, but she tries to avoid him as much as possible. What should he do?" Edmund asked.
"Ignoring him? Can you give me examples?" Granny asked.
"For example, if she is standing somewhere and sees him, she hurriedly leaves. If he comes out of his office and she spots him, she immediately goes into hers. It is so annoying. She does not even allow a conversation," Edmund explained, poking at his food harder than usual.
Grandma Elizabeth smiled. "Did your 'friend' do something to offend her?"
Edmund noticed the emphasis she placed on the word "friend" and frowned.
"Edmund, I am having a party in three days. I will give you an invitation letters for some members of your staff. Tell them attendance is compulsory." Grandma Elizabeth got up from the table. She could guess who the 'friend' was.

"Becky, you will not believe it! I got an invite to the Baxter household for a party, and I just received it today. Attendance is compulsory! What am I going to wear?" Sally paced the room as she spoke, visibly anxious.
"Calm down, girl. Relax and tell me something. Why would you get the invite on the day of the event?" Becky asked.
" I do not know. I found out that everyone else received their invitations two days ago. But the secretary just gave me mine today," Sally replied.
"Do I sense jealousy at your workplace? Why would the secretary do something like that?" Becky placed her hands on her hips, frowning.
"I do not care about that right now, Becky. I just need to find the perfect dress!" Sally ran her hands through her hair in frustration.
Becky paused for a moment and then asked, "Have you been paid, dear?"
"Not yet dear. I just hope I have enough money."

The ballroom was filling with guests. Soft music played in the background as Grandma Elizabeth, dressed in a pretty blue dress, walked around with a glass of champagne, greeting attendees. She chatted and laughed softly while observing her grandson, Edmund, staring intently at the entrance.
Edmund stood with Jasmine, who was making comments he was not paying attention to.
"Are you listening to me, honey?" Jasmine asked, turning his jaw slightly to face her.
"Of course, dear. You have my complete attention," he replied, though Jasmine could tell he was not being truthful. His eyes remained fixed on the door, and at that moment, she noticed who he was waiting for.
Sally walked into the room wearing a form-fitting white low-back dress that stopped at her knees. The dress hugged her curves, showcasing her glowing skin, and she wore high heels that accentuated her look. Her hair was styled in a sleek bun, and her makeup was flawless.
Edmund smiled; he had never seen her like this before. She usually came to work dressed very simply. This was also the first time Jasmine had seen her in such an elegant way, and she felt a pang of jealousy. She could see that Edmund could not take his eyes off Sally.
"Edmund, I am talking to you. Can you concentrate? Edmund!" Jasmine called out.
But Edmund continued to smile and ignored her. Unable to stand it any longer, Jasmine decided to confront Sally herself. She walked up to her at the entrance. "Hey, you!" she said angrily.
