CHAPTER 6

"I’m sorry for my crazy reaction and being rude to you, the news was a bit huge, I honestly didn't know how to take it in. Plus I'm sure you're aware my mom has been in a couple of relationships not so long ago with guys who appeared decent initially but later turned out to be assholes who later ended things with her in the most hurtful way leaving her hurt and broken. So you can't blame me for being a bit overprotective. I don't want her going through that again". I say apologetically to Matt. "Melanie." He calls my name so gently, like a father would. "I really can't be mad at you for looking after your mom or wanting that she's safe from people who don't have her best interest at heart. As a matter of fact I'm impressed and happy that you are that concerned about her, and you'll always help keeping the douchebags at bay". He says smiling with understanding. "I'm happy for the both of you. She seems really happy and at peace, it's feels so good to see her like that". I say as we both turn and stare at my mom who is humming and smiling at her phone. "I'd like to beg you for something though". I say turning a serious face to him. "What is that?" He asks a bit concerned or scared. "Please next time don't allow my mom drag you here this early, atleast let me have my morning coffee first. I guess that's why I was a bit cranky". I say smiling. “A bit?” He asks laughing. “Okay, a lot”. I say also laughing I turn around and see my mom smiling at us and then she mouths the words “Thank you” to me. “Congratulations mom” I say as I walk over to her giving her a big hug. "I’m so happy for you and I love you so much". “I love you too baby”. “Now let’s see that stunning diamond piece”. I say excitedly reaching for her finger. “Isn’t it so beautiful?” She sighs “It’s absolutely stunning mom”. And I wasn’t just saying it for the sake of it. The ring was really beautiful, with an oval shaped diamond piece that wasn’t too large or too small sitting on top of it. It just fit perfectly on her slender finger. “One day, we’ll both be standing like this again. Staring at a beautiful ring on your own finger. Whoever gives you that ring will definitely be the luckiest person on earth because you’re my personal lucky charm". "Oh Mom". I say with teary eyes "I always hoped it would be Jordan". She says hugging me so tight. “Me too Mom”. I say in my heart. “Me too". Jordan had become like a son to my mom over the years, she loved him so much and not so secretly hoped that one day we would date or end up together. She was also aware of my massive crush on him and always found pleasure in teasing me with it when I was younger.
