“Sally?” The Witch stares at me as she kneels down beside Melissa. “As in Mike’s mother?”
“Unfortunately. But I would prefer to be known as Melissa’s grandmother.” She looks away from me, eyes closed, and hands hovering over Melissa while she chants.
‘This is the Witch you were telling me about?’ Drew asks through the mind link, eyes on me. He’s annoyed about Sally walking into pack lands uninvited.
‘Yeah. Melissa trusts her, and I’m hoping this isn’t a trick.’
“Jai,” Melissa’s painful groan pulls me out of my chat with Drew.
“Can I touch her now?” I’m already reaching for Melissa, but remember what Sally said.
“Yes,” Sally nods.
I scoop Melissa up and hold her to me. She clings to me, and I kiss her head. Goddess, I was so scared there for a moment. I thought I’d lost her.
