I’m
having a quiet Saturday night in reading when the doorbell rings. I’m amazed to
see Jake on my doorstep. His dark expression indicates he’s not here to sing my
praises.
Without
even a greeting, he announces, “Emily gave me your address. It’s not very
professional to be on your doorstep unexpectedly, but I think I have a good
excuse. You have compiled a completely insane list of candidates to present my
show. You also had the audacity to circumvent my approval by going to my
sister.”
I
resist the urge to smile at his frustration and instead maintain a neutral
expression as I tell him, “I thought Emily was just as competent as you to make
decisions about the show. She didn’t seem to find any fault—”
