In
the morning, I wake up still perturbed, and things don’t improve upon arriving
at the office and finding Jake’s door closed. The sound of Faye’s voice and
laughter make me want to barge in and interrupt them, but I repeat to myself
that his relationship with his ex shouldn’t bother me. I can’t help but see the
irony of the situation—I am the one that brought his ex back into his life. I
occupy myself by responding to emails, and when I look at the calendar I
realize that Margo will be back in less than ten days. Emily’s arrival
distracts me.
“Is
she still with Jake?” she asks, glaring at the door to Jake’s office when
another peal of girlish laughter echoes loudly. “I need her on set.”
