  In the chairman office of the Quarry building, Scarlett’s father sat behind his desk, jaw clenched. In front him, there was Austin and Megan, sitting on the couch but maintaining a solid distance between them.   Megan could still feel the tension between them: Austin had become doubtful of her. On the other hand, her father’s anger and disappointment increased her anxiety. Would he be willing to protect her if Austin turned against her? It didn’t seem like it. She was running out of luck and wasn’t sure she could keep lying to them about Scarlett.
