I cared about you, that’s how I did it, were the words that echoed through Richard’s mind. The phrase got in line and became yet another thing he bit his tongue on. That list was growing rather rapidly in the last few days. When Richard didn’t reply, Adrian’s expression changed to one he couldn’t completely define, but concern was definitely in the mix somewhere.
When Adrian’s hand settled over his, sensations Richard never thought he would feel again washed over him. Jerking his hand back as if the gesture scalded him was probably not the best reaction. Probably hell, it was a horrible reaction, and the pained look on Adrian’s face said as much.
