"Let go of me! Stay back! Help!" I screamed like a maniac, swatting away his hands.
The convenience store owner, who had just been chatting with me, looked puzzled. "Young lady, what's going on?"
Alec seemed taken aback for a moment, but then he pulled me into his arms. "Sorry, everyone. We were just joking around. I'm her husband. It's nothing serious."
All I could think of was him with a devil-like grin, chopping up bodies.
It sent shivers down my spine. Seeing me like this must have been embarrassing for him.
Alec cleared his throat awkwardly and kept his distance. "Leah, what's really going on?"
I stared at him in terror.
More people were gathering around, and I started to feel safer.
"The tattoo shop has been closed off by the police. The owner died a few days ago! Who are you really?" I asked.
"You've got it all wrong. My shop needs renovating, so I put tape on the door. It's not police tape at all. Take a good look," Alec explained patiently.
I glanced back at the door, filled with confusion. There was indeed regular tape on it. I had just been too nervous to see clearly.
The convenience store owner who had teased me earlier chuckled awkwardly. "Hey, easy, young lady, I was just joking, okay? Look! Your husband is right here, alive!"
I was speechless. I had made a complete fool of myself because of his stupid joke!
Alec chuckled and rescued me from the awkwardness, tapping my forehead playfully. "I never know what's on your mind. We're couple, shouldn't there be basic trust?"
I wished I could disappear. Maybe rip off all the convenience store owner's hair while I was at it.
"Sorry."
Alec didn't dwell on it. He took my hand. "You dropped by without calling first. My shop is under renovating. How about we grab dinner somewhere else?"
How could I object? I could only nod as fast as I could.
Thankfully, he didn't think I was insane and was willing to take me out for dinner.
As we got into the car, I settled into the driver's seat and placed the little cake I had made in front of him. "I baked this myself. Give it a try. I'll drive."
I felt bad and needed to make up for my behavior earlier.
He was kind, smiling as he took the cake and sat in the passenger seat.
But the cake had been ruined by my monstrous actions, devoid of any beauty.
Opening the box, he saw a blob of chocolate and frowned. He didn't try it.
I felt embarrassed all over again.
"It's a chocolate cupcake I made. It got a little squished. Sorry. I'll make you a better one next time."
He took a bite of the cake directly and didn't show any distaste. "You're really talented with these cakes. I'm lucky. Dear wife."
I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my face burning.
Even though we were married, he had never called me his wife before. Hearing it suddenly made me uncomfortable.
As he ate his cake, he didn't forget to help me navigate. "How about grilled fish? There's a good place not far ahead."
My face was already beet red. I nodded vigorously.
Maybe I was too nervous. A car came from the opposite direction, and I made a sharp turn.
Alec, who was eating cake, couldn't stay still and the dark chocolate fell on him. "Let me drive?"
No way! Besides baking desserts, I had other skills and I had to show him about that.
I spoke up immediately, "No, I'm good at driving. It was just an accident. Hang on."
He didn't protest, silently putting the cake back in the box and using tissues to wipe off the chocolate.
When we got out of the car, I noticed a bit of chocolate at the corner of his mouth and reached for a tissue.
Alec hesitated for a moment and instinctively backed away.
I saw his ears turning red and didn't expect him to be such an innocent big boy.
Dinner wasn't as awkward as before.
I swear, it was the most embarrassing day of my life.
On the way back, he suddenly asked, "Should we swing by your place later to pick up your stuff?"
Only then did I remember I was supposed to move to his place today. I hadn't packed after watching that horror movie last night.
Things were moving faster than I expected. I was still nervous, and a few more days building our relationship wouldn't hurt.
So I quickly made up an excuse, "Um, I've been really busy these past couple of days and haven't packed yet. Let's do it in a few days."
Little did I know, as soon as the car stopped at my house, my parents were already there with two suitcases.
What the hell?
They didn't even let me get out of the car. They just opened the trunk and stuffed the luggage in.
My mom smiled at Alec. "We've packed everything for her. This silly girl always loses things. You'll have to be patient."
Alec smiled and handled everything smoothly. "Sure thing. Claire,Ronald, thank you for bringing Leah's things over. We'll head back now."
I was full of questions.
We had agreed he'd drop me off, but how did my parents end up sending me off with him?
Alec, being the caring person he is, noticed my emotional state and handed me a folder.
I opened it, surprised to find savings books, bank cards, and various IDs inside.
What did this mean?
He continued driving, explaining, "I know you're still adjusting to married life and feeling uncertain. This is all yours now. These are my assets, and from now on, you'll manage them. You'll be the boss at home."
