I held the phone tightly, not daring to make a sound. The only thing I could hear from Alec's end was the wind howling. Knowing he was rushing back gave me some comfort, and the noise outside had completely stopped. I hid under the blanket, listening for any movement. Suddenly, the door was flung open. I quickly wrapped the blanket around myself and hid in the corner. Through the soft velvet, I heard light footsteps approaching slowly but steadily, as if they already knew where I was.
