19. The One That Mattered In The End

* * * “Zahmair!” The wind whipped against her feverish skin, cold and harsh as she ran. Her breathing was loud in her ears just as the rapidly closing footsteps were and the panic flooding her system made everything that wasn’t her survival inconsequential. Including the sound of her brother calling out for her from the other side of the phone clutched tight in her hand. She looked around frantically for help. But the deserted streets seemed to stretch for miles ahead and so she blindly ran. Zahra’s heart stopped when she felt one of the men’s presence too close to her.
