One Month Back
It was Mr. & Mrs. Ahluwalia’s wedding anniversary, so Rajveer and his friend has arranged a small surprise party for his parents on their special day.
They are coming from Chandigarh today for celebrating their anniversary with their beloved son.
As Rajveer was busy with the preparations that he personally want to do for his parents, he asked Kamal to pick his parents from Railway Station.
Like Rajveer his parents were also very sweet people.
During the way back to office Kamal and his parents had lots of chit chat.
Mrs Ahluwalia said, “Kamal beta,… Rajveer sirf kaam hi karda rehnda hai ya hor vi kuch karda hai??”
(Kamal Child,… Do Rajveer only works or does something else also??)
Kamal asked confused “Matlab Aunty??”
(Meaning Aunty??)
“Oh ho…mera matlab si ….ki koi kudi pasand kiti ki nahi mere puttar ne??” She replied.
(Oh ho….what I mean is… whether my son liked any girl or not??)
“Sorry Aunty…but I don’t think so.” Kamal informed her.
“All the time he keeps himself busy with his work only…” Kamal told her.
“I know…but I want my son to get settled now…especially when his business is doing good…but whenever I ask him, he simply ignores me…” she huffed in annoyance.
“I tell him to meet girls for marriage proposal and he always slips away with some excuses….but enough of his running away…this time I will go back only after fixing his marriage.” She declared to which Mr. Ahluwalia started laughing.
“hun tusi kyun has rahe ho ji??” she asked her husband.
(Now why are you laughing??)
“He has achieved what he wanted to achieve…now he will himself look for his bride.” Mr. Ahluwalia said.
“But I clearly want to say that only a Sikh girl should be his bride and that too from a good family not any random girl.”
“But nowadays it hardly matters…and this new generation never bother about this.” He argued with his wife.
“I know that very well…but if sikh boy not marry a sikh girl, then how will our tradition, culture and sacraments will pass to next generation…and enough of your next generation theory….I WANT A BEAUTIFUL AND KIND SIKH GIRL FOR MY RAJVEER…and that is final…end of discussion.” She stated firmly.
“Yes My Lady…As you say” Mr. Ahluwalia accepted defeat and agreed to her thoughts in a dramatically way like bowing in front of a queen.
She is indeed a queen as only female at home, she gets all love, care and pamper from both the males of family. Her words are their command.
On seeing her husband’s antics she laughed out loud.
“Aunty you think just like my family…. I mean my late grandpa, my father and my late uncle, all of them believed in this philosophy and its value in our culture.” Kamal said.
“See their family also thinks like this only.” She said raising her brows to her husband.
“Hmmm” Mr. Ahluwalia huffed crossing his hands across his chest while looking outside the window.
Hearing Kamal’s words something clicked in her mind. She thought to ask Kamal more about his family.
So she asked, “Kamal Beta…tuhadi family vich kaun kaun hai???”
(Kamal child, who else is there in your family??)
“In my Family??…there is my father, my mom n my little sister.” He informed her.
On listening Kamal’s words, she jumped in her mind excitedly.
“What do your parents do??” she asked again.
“My father is an executive in a company and my mom is a homemaker” he informed her.
“And your sister…??” she asked raising her eye brows.
“Oh ho Manpreet (Mrs. Ahluwalia)…bas vi kar …tu te munde de piche hi pe gayi hai..” Mr. Ahluwalia interrupted.
(Oh ho Manpreet…stop it…you have fallen after the boy.)
“It is okay Uncle ji…My sister is working in a company as an administrative executive.” Kamal informed her.
“Oh...Okay…um...Er...She…I mean…Is. She. married??” Mrs. Ahluwalia stammered but asked somehow.
Kamal understood what she means by so he stated the fact.
“Um ...no aunty she is still studying…and besides she is too young for marriage.” He informed her.
“How old is she??” she asked again.
“She is 20 now …will be 21 after two months” he said.
“Okay …don’t mind me Kamal …I just want a good girl from a good family for my son.” She explained.
“It’s ok Aunty…Any girl will be lucky to have Rajveer as her life partner…even I would love to marry off my sister to such a decent guy like him …but she is too young for marriage and its responsibilities…she has to complete her study also.” He said to which both Mr. & Mrs. Ahluwalia nodded in agreement.
Soon they reached office where Rajveer has arranged a surprise party for his parents.
All his colleagues were also invited in the party including Kamal and Deep.
Rajveer’s Parents are very happy to see their son of being so thoughtful for them for arranging such party for their special day.
Party was full of fun, laughter and stories of elderly couple.
After telling one of their stories, Mr. Ahluwalia grabbed wrist of his wife and started singing a old Hindi song.
Main shayar to nahin
Main shayar to nahin
Magar aye haseen….. jabse dekha
Maine tujhko… mujhko shayari aa gayi
(I'm not a poet
I'm not a poet
But, oh beautiful girl
Since I've seen you
I've learnt to write poetries)
Main aashiq to nahin
Magar aye haseen…. jabse dekha
Maine tujhko…. mujhko aashiqi aa gayi
(I'm not a lover
But, oh beautiful girl
Since I've seen you
I've learnt how to fall in love)
Main. Shayar. To. Nahin.
(I'm not a poet)
He finished bowing in front of Mrs. Ahluwalia who was looking red like a tomato.
Everyone was cheering Uncle and Rajveer went to hug his Dad.
“Fantastic Dad…that was amazing” he said to his Dad.
“Thank you son…only praising won’t work…now its your turn” Uncle said to Rajveer who got stunned by what his Dad told him to do.
“But Dad I don’t know how to sing…besides my voice is very pathetic” he tried to get excuse from the situation.
He tried ….but his father insisted him to sing for them by saying,
“Oh Stop it Raj…I know you can sing…sing for us, please…or if you don’t want to sing for us …it’s totally fine…you can sing for that someone special that will come in your life and make it more than beautiful…just like what your mom did to my life.”
And Rajveer went silent for a moment. We all guessed he was thinking about that someone special and a right song for her.
And after say few minutes he started singing…
Sochenge tumhe pyar kare ke nahi
Sochenge tumhe pyar kare ke nahi
Yeh dil beqaraar kare ke nahi
(I'll think whether to love you or not
I'll think whether to love you or not
Whether to make my heart restless or not)
Khwaabon mein chupaya tumko
Yaadon mein basaya tumko
Miloge humein tum jaanam kahin na kahin
(I've hidden you in my dreams
I've placed you in my memories
Beloved, I'll find you somewhere or the other)
Sochenge tumhe pyar kare ke nahi
Yeh dil beqaraar kare ke nahi
(I'll think whether to love you or not
Whether to make my heart restless or not)
Jis din tumko dekhegi nazar
(The day my eyes will look at you)
Jis din tumko dekhegi nazar
(The day my eyes will look at you)
Jaane dil pe hoga kya asar
(Who knows how will my heart react to that)
Rakhenge tumko nigaahon mein
(I'll keep you in my eyes)
Bhar lenge tumhe baahon mein
(I'll take you in my arms)
Zulfon ko hum suljhayenge
(I'll untangle your tresses)
Ishq mein duniya bhulayenge
(I'll forget the world in your love)
Yeh beqaraari ab toh hogi na kam, hogi na kam
(Now this restlessness won't reduce)
Sochenge tumhe pyar kare ke nahi
(I'll think whether to love you or not)
Yeh dil beqaraar kare ke nahi
(Whether to make my heart restless or not)
Hey Hey…Aa Ha...la lala la lala la
Hey.. heyhey..hey.. heyhey… hey
Aa.. HaHa.. Aa.. Haha ha..mmm
He sang the song looking in space…in a dreamy way
All left in shock after that. His parents were more than happy hearing this song from their only child’s mouth especially his mother.
She was beyond happy.
There was a hope in her heart that maybe this time her son will listen to her and agree to get married.
I really wish he will agree to marry Kamal’s sister because family plays an important role in a child’s life. And from the things that we talked in the way, seems to fit my requirement for my son’s bride.
I really wish…she thought.
