23. She Is Different You Know
Rabnoor P.O.V. continued
“I saw you both girls walking down the street, so I thought to let me offer you guys lift to your place.” He offered.
“Oh no no….no need to bother yourself.” I refused straight away.
Pooja turned immediately. On hearing his offer she said excitedly, “Oh yes yes”
As these words left her lips, I turned to her.
Anger building up in me and I stared her narrowing my eyes. I shook my head slightly indicating her not to do anything further.
But this stupid stupid friend of mine, she just shrugged it and avoided my warning.
‘POOJA’
‘Argh!’
‘Why sometimes I feel like killing my friend with my own hands.’
She looked toward the Sid and said, “I would love to have your company to way back home.”
“And what about you?” he inquired me with a smirk playing on his lips.
‘I can’t believe this.'
'He is smirking again’
‘Why he always tease me?’
‘This is all because my stupid friend who is lurking on him’
‘I really want to kill her’
I glanced at Pooja and she took a small step back from the Sid’s side and pleaded while folding her hands and silently mouthed ‘Please-Please’ to me.
I know she wants me to say YES to this offer so that she get to spend more time with Sid and on the other hand Sid wants to show off in front of me but... believe me, I am not at all interested in all this.
I mentally rolled my eyes thinking of these two crazy people and said, “Thanks for the offer but I’ll mange myself. I think you guys should carry on.”
“What?” they both shouted in unison. Shock was evident on their faces.
“But why do you want to go alone? Like I said I want to drop you both.” He said dejectedly.
“I know but I don’t like to travel in expensive car like this…”
I said waving my hand toward his car and then continued...
“Rather I prefer going by Metro. Unlike me, Pooja will love to join you as she is a big fan of fancy cars.”
I said looking towards Pooja.
She secretly sent a flying kiss to me and grinned widely.
Then I looked toward Sid, he was giving me a look ‘Are you for real???’
“Ok guys see you tomorrow.” I said waving my hand to them and turned on my heels to leave.
“What the hell??”
I heard him behind me…
Sid's P.O.V
“What the hell??”
I left dumbfounded on my spot.
I saw her quickly pacing towards the metro station.
‘What kind of girl she is?’
‘Which girl not fancy for expensive car?’
I heard a throat clearing sound behind my back.
I turned around and saw a very excited Pooja standing in front of me.
I gave her a half smile and hold out the passenger seat door for her to enter.
With a small thank you she entered the car.
After closing the door, I turned to look in Rabnoor’s direction but she was nowhere to be seen.
I sighed loudly and then ushered towards the driver’s seat and ignition the engine and started driving.
‘I Don’t Like To Travel In Expensive Car Like This, Rather I Prefer Going By Metro’
Her words kept ringing in my ears.
My mind was still flooded with her thoughts and I didn’t heed any attention toward Pooja, who was continuously blabbering something.
I wanted to snap on her that can't she see that I am not in a mood to talk to her, but I somehow restrained myself from doing so. I know it’s not her fault.
As I was not listening to what she was talking. I was still responding her with nodding and half smiling occasionally.
‘Why the hell am I sitting with her?’
‘Oh God’
‘I desperately wanted to be around Rabnoor’
‘Why she refused?’
As per Pooja’s guidance, we reached her destination. I pulled the car in the drive way and stopped.
She gave me an ear to ear smile and thanked me for driving her off.
She asked me to come over to her place and have coffee or something.
But I refused her politely.
She was about to open the door when I decided to ask her the question that was still lingering in my mind.
“Ahmm…. Pooja, ….Do you mind me… asking you… something?” I asked her hesitantly as I am still not able to digest the fact that Rabnoor rejected my offer.
“Of course not…go ahead.” She responded immediately almost grinning.
“Do you have any idea why Rabnoor behaved like that? .... I mean like a spoil sport…. It would be fun if she would have joined us….What you say?” I inquired her.
“Oh …No No….you are getting it wrong….She is not a spoil-sport….not at all…In fact she is a very fun loving person.” She replied smilingly.
Her answer left me more confusing.
‘Because if she is a fun loving person so what happened to her now?’
‘Where is her all fun gone?’
I thought to myself.
“So why she said that she will go by metro and not in this CAR.” I said all this putting more pressure on car.
“Oh …That” she said making her lips shaped as an ‘O’ and then her face like she now remembered something.
“Ahh....Don’t mind her Sid….She is just like that” She shrugged.
“She is like what?” I asked her again curious to know the reason.
“Ahmm…Sid…She is very simple girl…she has seen so much in her life that I can't even tell you.” She said looking straight in my eyes.
I gave her a confused look.
“Once there was time when her family was very rich. They have all the luxuries wrapped up on their finger tips.
Like you name it and they have it.
But…. then her Father and her Uncle, her father’s younger brother, faced huge loss in business from their partners.” She said in a very painful voice while lowering her gaze.
I was listening to the details very seriously. I can see the pain she is feeling for her friend.
She then continued what she was saying.
“After that loss, they left with nothing …No house, no cars, no servants, no money and no business rather they have to bear debt also.” She sounded agonizing.
“Ohh..” only this escaped from my mouth as I was absorbing the information that she was providing me.
“This whole thing was so savage already that her uncle could not able to bear the loss and started feeling depressed.
Somehow Rabnoor’s father managed to find a job and her elder brother also supported them and their financial situation got little stable. But …” she paused and I saw tear welled up in her eyes.
“But What??” I asked as curiosity was building in me.
“But fate was more cruel and merciless on her family” she said and paused.
“Why? …What happened then??” I asked her holding my breath.
“Her uncle passed away…. as he was not able to get over this shock.” She said with a harrowing voice.
“Oh my goodness” escaped my mouth as I felt pity for her.
“She was around fifteen or sixteen then. She has experienced scarcity of money and resources at a very young and tender age.
And now she finds all luxuries, branded clothes, visiting fancy hotels for dine out, shopping at malls and throwing parties etc, as a total waste of money.
Although she is earning now but she supports her family and contributes in the household expenses.
In spite of this she saves money from her monthly salary to help underprivileged children and she often donates in orphanage also.
She often visits them to help them in their studies also.” She said last few lines proudly.
“Wow…she really does that?” I asked in total amazement as I have never expected that she would be so thoughtful for others.
‘Amazing’
‘She is really wow’
“You know Sid….” She said and looked straight in my eyes and continued, “Rabnoor is very kind-hearted, hard working and amazing person.
She loves to have fun around but at the same time she is very sincere about her work.
She never find happiness in expensive gifts like other girls rather she feel happy for small, simple and useful things.
And that’s what I love about her.
She is different you know”
From the moment I saw her today I felt she is different but I didn’t know that she is this much different from others.
“Ya ..She is quite different.” I said while nodding my head in agreement.
“And that is the reason she refused to sit in my car” I said while sharing a knowing look with her.
“YES” she said putting more pressure on ‘S’.
“Okay, see ya tomorrow” she said and opened the door to exit.
She closed the door behind her and waved her hand before walking away.
I saw her as she moved further towards her house. I was watching her but my mind was still lingering with the thoughts of HER.
