26. Who is that girl?
Siddharth’s P.O.V
My eyes burnt as the bright sun pierced through the big glass windows of my room onto my face.
I groaned and pulled the comforter over my head to block morning light.
“What a sweet sleep I had last night” I mumbled hugging my pillow.
I heard a knock on my door followed by a motherly voice, “Sid, my child…Are you up???....Your Dad is waiting for you at breakfast table….Hurry up.”
“Aunt Ray, ….go away please …I want to sleep more” I shouted not wanting to get up.
Aunt Ray, only I call her Aunt Ray, for everyone else she is Rehana. She is working at our home from many years now. She was my caretaker when I was young, when my mother passed away.
She still treats me as I am a small school going child.
She is my cook also. Though there are many cooks in our house but I like food cooked by Aunt Ray only.
She has this motherly love and care for me that every time I eat food made by her I feel like I am eating food prepared by my own mother.
She banged the door this time little louder and said, “Sid, open the door please….you have to go to the office with your Dad…Remember.”
“Oh s**t….Office…Rabnoor” I zolted up immediately from my bed.
‘How can you forget?’
‘You Stupid Stupid Sid’
I smacked my head with my own hand.
I moved to open the door for Aunt Ray to enter and clean the room.
Then turn around to rush towards the bathroom.
After taking shower and dressing up for the day, I quickly paced towards the dining area where my dad was waiting for me.
“s**t!!” I exclaimed loudly.
‘I am in a deep s**t now’
‘He left already.’
‘Oh God! Please save me today from my Dad’s wrath’
I thought and quickly paced toward my car without having breakfast.
I rushed to office as fast as I can.
I am 45 minutes late today.
As I reached the lift area, the door of lift was about to close so I quickly placed my hand on door to stop it from closing.
And guess what…???
I know what you all must have guessed…
No, Rabnoor was not there.
But yes, her worried and concerned face flashed in front of my eyes.
And I paused in my tracks recalling my first meeting with her in this same lift.
All my worries of getting my Dad’s wrath vanished in a blink just by remembering her face.
And now my heart is feeling delighted with the mere thought of meeting her.
The people in the lift were staring at me.
‘Oops’
‘Again her face flashed’
‘Leave her thoughts Sid, focus on Dad and any how you are going to meet her soon.’ My inner voice told me.
‘Yeah you are right’ I thought and shook her thoughts away.
I gave an apologetic smile to all and moved from the doorway to allow it to close.
I am going to my dad’s office first or else he will kick me out from his Business Empire.
As the door opened on 13th floor, I almost ran off to my dad’s office.
On seeing me, Radhika (Dad’s Secretary) was about to get up but I gestured her to sit down and I rushed toward Dad’s office.
I knocked on his door and waited for his reply.
And as I got one I entered in his office.
“Good Moring Dad” I greeted him with a bright smile on my face.
“You are one hour and 20 minutes late, Mr. Siddharth Malhotra”
He eyed me with full of anger tone.
“I know and I am really sorry Dad, but ….”
I was about to say something but was cut off by my dad in middle.
“What did you just say???”
He asked me. He was looking shocked
“What??”
I asked back looking at his shocked expression and getting confused.
“What you just said to me??”
He asked me again with an evil smile.
“I am not getting it dad….
What are you trying to say?”
I asked getting irritated.
“Did you just said SORRY to me??
Haan??” finally he said that putting more pressure on sorry.
A smirk was playing on his lips.
‘Oh no….I really said that???’
‘OH!…..This Rabnoor and her effects’
‘Gosh’
‘Now how do I explain to Dad??’
“I –I was…..um….aa.. actually ….”
I stammered and my Dad burst into fits of laughter.
“Mr. Siddharth Malhotra….
said Sorry….
and that is to me…
to his Father???”
He said still laughing hard.
“And moreover ….
he is not only sorry…..
for the first time in his life…
he is short of words….
no actually….
he was stammering….
Oh I can't believe this..!” he said again.
“Daaaaad”
I eyed him in warning. I gave him a look ‘You dare laugh more’
He raised his hand in surrender.
“Okay Okay…
Now will you please enlighten me ….
How the sun rises from west today.”
He said more of in a sarcastic tone controlling his laughter.
“What Dad???…
You are now making fun of me.”
I said smiling sheepishly
“Oh my god …
My son is smiling”
He said looking toward me in excitement.
“I am not smiling Dad, I am just …”
I was again cut in middle of what I was saying.
“Oh please Sid, don’t act in front of me....
I am your Dad….
and I can read on your face…
there is something that you are hiding from me....
now come on tell me??” he said
I was wondering where this whole topic is going and all of a sudden out of blue my dad asked me…
“Who is that girl???” he said wiggling his brows.
‘Holy s**t!’
‘Am I this much screwed that even my dad can also read me??’
I mentally face palmed myself.
“Um…nothing like that dad…there is no girl.”
I cleared it …tried actually.
“Don’t lie to me Sid…I heard you yesterday…
when you were singing that song ….what was it…ya....
Ek ajnabi haseenaa se, Yoon mulaaqaat ho gayi…???
...Hmm ….now will you again say that….tell me?” Dad inquired.
‘Oh God’
‘He heard that’
‘Now what??’
“Um…Oh that…actually I heard that song on FM on drive back home…
I really liked the song so I was just singing it…
that’s it…nothing else Dad.”
I tried to avoid his gaze.
I want to end this conversation right here, right now and I don’t want to discuss this further so it is better to take my leave from here as soon as possible.
“Dad, I was saying that I forgot to put on an alarm today so I got late, but I promise you that it won’t happen again…
and now will please allow me so that I can get back to my work…
I need to discuss few things with Rabnoor” I said.
“Oh Yeah of course”
He said and paused for a while and said again,
“And I forgot to ask you…
Did you guys get along well with each other? …..
And how is she?...
Mr. Thakur was praising her lot….so I hope she will live up to my expectations.”
“Ya…she will….rather I should say we will…
Okay Dad …see you later.” I said taking my leave from him.
I quickly rushed to the 12th floor towards Rabnoor and Pooja’s seats.
As I approached them, Rabnoor was busy on her computer doing some work.
She was looking breathtakingly beautiful in her baby pink colour top and black jeans. Her hairs were tied in a messy bun showing little bit of her fair neck from back.
Suddenly I was feeling an urge to kiss her on nape of her neck.
I can spend my whole day just by watching her…..she is really something.
I shook my head to keep these kind of thoughts away.
‘It would be better for you Sid to go and talk to her in spite of just looking at her otherwise she will again accuse you of being a pervert.’ My inner voice mocked me.
‘Ya you are right’ I thought.
“Hey Rabnoor…Hi…How are you??” I asked
“Hey Sid…Why are you late??” she asked me completely ignoring my question.
“My alarm clock ditched me…so I got late today.” I reasoned.
“What???”
Pooja said coming from my behind and then she and Rabnoor shared a look and they both burst out in the fits of laughter.
“Ditch …. I mean how come an alarm clock ditch you???”
This was Pooja. And they both shared a high-five still laughing.
“Seriously girls…it was my clock’s fault not mines.”
“I have set the alarm but it didn’t ring in the morning ….what should I do?”
I tried to explain but these girls were just laughing and laughing.
“Oh Sid …. Stop accusing that poor clock of yours when you are the only one at fault on not setting proper alarm.”
“Or maybe you don’t want to get up in the morning. It seems you are not a morning person… am I right??” This was Rabnoor.
“Maybe you are right….I am not a morning person…but I guess I don’t have any option now.” I accepted my fault.
“Okay let’s get started with our project….come I’ll tell you what I am thinking.”
Rabnoor said and we settled down on our seats and started discussing our ideas.
Around 12 o’clock she started to wrap up her stuff.
When I asked her what is she doing she said that she is taking a half day off today as she have some personal work that she needs to do.
With a sad heart I said goodbye to her and she left us at exactly 12:30 pm.
‘I wonder where she was going.’
Pooja told me that she is going on shopping for her cousin’s Roka Ceremony with her and her aunt.
‘Why you have to go??’
‘This is not done’
