This was the worst humiliation of my life. It got worse when other students laughed, jeering him. I know I am not the most beautiful but I was also intelligent but wasn't valued. It just hurt like hell.
Hot tears glint in my eyes as I tried my damn best not to let any fall. I was feigning a strong lady but in truth, I was far from being strong. I was broken. My fragile heart couldn't contend with the mortification and grievances his words caused me in the presence of everyone.
"But I didn't choose you myself. I was only ..."
"Spare me those c**k and bull story." Vincent cut me off completely as he added. "Look at you, you can't even defend yourself when bullied. A little pinch in your heart and then boom… You start releasing an ocean of tears. You are so annoying and pathetic!"
More tears rolled down my cheeks at his words. Watching my mate humiliate me as though I was nothing hurt more than I would imagine. "But I am not a weakling, I only cry when it hurts. That doesn't make me a coward."
"Oh shut that crap you call a mouth. You b***h! Do you think you can attract the attention of my soul mate? Oh gosh! That's absurd!" Melody dramatizes, she was the queen of bullies and a close friend to Alpha Vincent. Everyone believed her to be Vincent's mate and Luna but the truth was, Melody wasn't even a wolf but rather, an evil witch.
"You are wearing the same color as him. How dare you! You uncircumcised, pig-headed b***h!" Melody yelled, raising her hands to slap me.
In defense, I shut my eyes tightly, awaiting the pains I knew would shoot all through my body but nothing happened. Shocked, my eyes flew open, meeting Melody's hands held midway by strong masculine hands.
"Don't you dare think of raising a hand on Harmony! You witch!" A cold voice threatened, cutting through like ice. His words, coldly spoken sent shivers of fear down her spine.
"And if I do?" Melody challenged.
"I will be forced to drink your blood, considering I am a vampire who has been starved for decades." He whispered to Melody's ears alone.
Whatever it was he said harmed Melody whose face went white as though she just had an encounter with a ghost. I saw her eyes travel to Vincent, begging for intervention.
"And you!" The strange guy glanced at Vincent with disdain. "If I ever see you near Harmony, I will be forced to cut off your d**k!"
Students gasped at his words. I frowned, clearly unpleased by his statement. Judging from the look of things, it didn't strike me as a mere threat. Rather, it felt like both had a grudge against one another and were trying hard to contend it.
"Only if you have the hands because obviously, I will be forced to cut off your hands first if you ever cross the line!" Vincent took a step closer to him with a smirk, "I thought your taste in ladies had improved over the years, but seems it got worse." He mocked. "I am not surprised, you deserve the poor nerd, Harmony!"
I suck in a deep breath at his words. My mate didn't just reject me in public, he humiliated me. Was this the mate I was excited to have? Not anymore. If anything, I will try my possible best to cut it out. I vowed.
"Harmony was a hundred times better than you. You are nothing but a monster. And I bet, if not that she was betrothed to you without her consent, she would never have spared you a second of her time. Because," he leaned forward, whispering into his ears. "You are not close to being handsome. Your fake identity will soon be exposed."
Everything happening felt like a dream to me. A handsome guy was defending me against my mate. It warmed my heart but at the same time, I felt bad for being humiliated. Still fixing my gaze on the scene, I watched as the handsome guy completely shoved Vincent out of his way as he walked out with a poker face.
My eyes followed him till he got out of sight. Without another word, Vincent stormed out. The student followed suit not without glaring at me.
"Gosh! I can't believe the mate you were talking about was Vincent, the obnoxious handsome Alpha. But damn! Vincent is handsome with a muscular structure that left me aroused for a moment!" Calista commented, still staring lustfully at Vincent's receding figure.
"You are such a despicable person! How could you be attracted to a bastard who has no respect for anyone not even his mate? Come on, grow out of this infatuation." Melvin reprehended.
"That's not your headache," she retorted heatedly. "I have got to crush. He is so handsome. And besides, Harmony isn't complaining!"
"Wait till your heart gets shattered. Probably, you will get to learn a huge lesson but till then, savor the feelings while it lasts."
"Harmony, Melvin have been insulting me but you aren't saying a word. Harmony!" Calista called frustratingly.
I was lost in a world of my own as I speculated on ways to maneuver out of this betroth with Vincent. I couldn't imagine spending a second of my life with him as I was sure of being broken emotionally and numerous times.
"Hey,"
I felt something jerked me out of my thoughts. My conflicting emotions could not be concealed and so I wore it like a shield against my damaged heart. "What?"
"You zoomed out on us."
"My apologies." I apologize absentmindedly. "What's that guy's name? The one who stood against Vincent." I clarified.
"Oh, that's Alpha Frank. Alpha Vincent's rival. He is the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack. The pack is known for its unity, peace, and cooperation. He is actually from a rich and famous family. Heard he was out of state, where he majored in business management. And now, he is here in moonstone studying medicine. He is quite intelligent."
Calista revealed as though reading it out from a book. The blonde lady knew the identity of everyone present in school and outside school. She was always current.
"But one thing is certain, Frank is a vampire!" She whispered the last word into my ears, as though warning me to back out.
Vampires were not bad. Some didn't indulge in human blood but that of animals, and I was inwardly hoping Frank should be one of them.
The bracelet in my hands glowed. Alert, I glanced at my two friends apologetically. "I am afraid, I won't be joining you guys for lectures. Go! I will come later." I assured, stealthily hiding my glowing bracelet.
"Is everything okay?" Kelvin probed, concerned evident in his voice.
"Yes." I half assured with a smile that didn't reach my eyes.
"Alright. See you soon." Calista pulled Kelvin away, saving me from further explanation. Glancing back to ensure no one was watching, I sneaked out to the garden. The only deserted place in school.
The glowing bracelet stopped and from it, a loud voice shrieked. "You are a goddess in mortal form. Your mission is to restore the Red Moon to its former glory. Opposition might arise but you must accomplish your mission. Don't forget! You are an IMMORTAL in a MORTAL body."
The voice vanished. The feeling of weakness crept over me. Am I truly a goddess?
