CHAPTER 3

I knew something was wrong immediately I stepped my foot inside the house. Its silence was uncalled for. Four pairs of eyes bore holes on my back, as I made my way towards the staircase and straight to my room. "Where do you think you are going to, you slut!" A male voice called angrily, forcing me to halt with one of my legs on the staircase. Without glancing back, "I am coming back from school." I responded. "School?" I could hear the incredulity in his voice as he questioned my statement. My heart broke, none had ever believed my words. At one point, I wondered what was my offense. "And you are coming back by this time?" As though in conspiracy, the wall clock chooses that moment to tickle loudly, announcing its presence. "That's because I was at the library!" I retorted, glancing back finally with my eyes burning with unconcealed fury. "We came looking for you but you weren't in school. Your friends said you didn't attend lectures. Care to explain that?" Luciana crossed her legs together as she popped the question. I couldn't help but detest her more at that moment. "I was at the library!" I argued. "Look, I have got things to do, so excuse me!" I made to escape to my room but stopped when something caught my peripheral vision. "What's that?" I pointed towards the concealed package lying comfortably on the center table. "That's a parcel for you. The full moon festival is in two days. And yeah, there is a switch. You are no longer betroth to Vincent but rather, to Cole." Cole? As in the crippled prince? The ruthless prince who was known to be the most difficult to please and annoyingly handsome? "Oh God! Why me? Who the hell changed it? Why was I given to Cole?" The question got blurted out of my mouth in that moment of pure panic. I would have managed Vincent and now, It's a man who was crippled? Gosh! Nothing good ever came my way! I realized. "I see you got the information even before I spilled it." A young lady with a black long hair strolls in majestically, unfazed by my tantrum. "Aunt Seraphina, can't you change this? You can tell them I am already betrothed or out of town. Please, Aunt Seraphina. Cole is a very wicked prince, I won't survive it at his place." I pleaded plaintively. At Seraphina’s statement, I realized my pleads fell on deaf ears. "Please, Aunt Seraphina!" "You see we are owing Alpha Klieve and we were not able to pay the debt. We had no other choice but to offer you to Prince Cole. By offering you, our debts have been settled." "But I have no clue about the debt. Besides, are you not supposed to offer your children? Why me? Because I am without a mother?" The thought shattered me. "Yes! I choose you because you deserve a wicked prince. You don't deserve any happiness. And of course, I won't watch you have happiness or any iota reason to smile. Tears must continuously be your hobbies." Her hatred for me was no longer hidden. "Why do you detest me so much? Why? I have never hurt you or your children! I have always accorded you the respect you deserve! Why treat me this way? Why are you so callous!" I accused heatedly. "Because your f*****g mum snatched your father from me. I am supposed to be the real wife, the real Luna but hell no! Your bitchy mother seduced your father and of course, I had her killed." She confessed without remorse. "If you aren't careful, I will be forced to do the same to you!" I was at a loss for words. Instantly, I doubted my hearing ability. Right before me was the murderer of my beloved mother. I didn't know what else to do but I was sure of revenge. Unless i manage to stay alive at Cole’s house. "You murderer! You are such an evil witch!" "Cry baby! Your tears won't amount to anything! And I know you might planned on escaping thereby ruining my plans. So here is our plan, you are not allowed to step a foot out of this house ever again till your wedding day which is in two days!" "What?" I half yelled incredulously. "You are locking me up? What the hell just invaded your brain! Are you mad? Have you completely gone nut? Or you are mentally insane!" The words slipped out of my lips, forcing a gasp out of them. I didn't give a damn about the repercussion of my actions. I was done being a weakling. I was done being a coward. I was done being treated like a trash can and a foot mat. I was completely done! "You b***h! Did you raise your voice at my mother?" Melvin calmly rose to his feet. His calm was a deception to his fury which I knew but didn't budge. "Yeah! I totally did. Haven't you all noticed she had lost her sense of reasoning? Her brain is now filled with coconut water instead of sense? How dare she sold me off to a crippled man who was as callous as her. If she desperately wanted to sell someone, why not Luciana? Luciana should be given off to Cole and not me! I won't marry him! Do your worst!" My challenge must have taken them off guard for a moment because they all stared at me without uttering a word. Glancing at myself in the mirror. I gasped loudly. Right on my forehead was a glowing symbol of the sun. It was beautiful and shimmering but it was the last thing on my mind. "Who are you?" Seraphina asked with an unreadable expression on her face. The question took me off guard. "My name is Harmony! What nonsense question is that? Indeed your brain nut has been unscrewed. Look here! If you know what is good for you, reverse that s**t you just did. Give off Luciana as a wife but not me!" "Shut the trash, b***h! You are now challenging the hands that fed you, right? You ingrate! You have the nerve to speak back at my mouth. You scum! How dare you! You don't f*****g deserve happiness and peace! You hell deserve to be six feet below the earth! You are wasting air! You are useless here and disgusting, in my opinion." "Your opinion doesn't matter one bit! It's more like a cow dung! Does cow dung matter? No, it doesn't." I added defiantly, leaving no room for a response. I was hurt by their words but then again, I was acting strong. "A cow dung? What has come over you?" Melvin yelled. "And what is going on here?" A male voice answered from the staircase. Relieved, I broke down into an hissing fit. "Aunt Seraphina and her children have been attacking me, Dad. They threw words at me and further beat me up!" I sobbed, and fell to the ground, wincing in pain. The look of utter bewilderment on their faces was priceless. My happiness was ephemeral when I noticed Melvin pulled out a dagger, moving in a circle around Johnny. Alarmed, I shrieked! "Dad! A dagger!" I warned and watched as Johnny moved immediately away from the danger point. The dagger in Melvin's hands was revealed. "Bastard! You dare bring a dagger against me?" "Dad! It wasn't for you but for Harmony!" "How dare you!" Johnny howled. I heard his bones c***k and right before me, Johnny changed into a big wolf. He attacked Melvin angrily as Melvin tried to protect himself. Blood spilled, staining the floor. Seconds later, the fight ended with Melvin covered with blood and wincing with pain. "I am truly disappointed in you all!" He pointed an accusing finger at Seraphina, Luciana, and Melvin. "I want you all out of my house immediately!" "Dad! We are your family!" "Hubby, I am your wife. You can't really do this all because of the low-life b***h here." She gestured to me. "The low-life b***h you have been maltreating is my Luna. My wife!"
