Chapter 9: The Hunger that WalksGWYN SNATCHED A LOOK OVER the rock he huddled behind with Mitch. Two shots screamed off the boulder inches from his head. He ducked down again, but he’d seen enough. The shots had come from the cover of the trees at the top of the slope where he’d seen the flash of light. Below that, the two supposed hunters, their rifles now trained on his and Mitch’s hiding spot, were slowly descending the slope of the gulley toward them, one moving to the left, one to the right, leaving a clear line of site for the men hiding in the cover of the trees. They obviously knew what Heroka were capable of and were taking no chances. The shooters in the trees would keep them pinned down until the hunters had clear shots to finish the job. The two hunters were about forty paces
