Chapter 11: EndingsTHE PRESSURE ON GWYN’S chest and throat suddenly vanished. He opened his eyes. The silver wolf, Mahigan, was gone. The strange, primal dark forest was gone. Sunlight lit the late afternoon sky above him again. Pushing himself up, he looked around. He was back in the gulley of the ambush, where an ominous silence had fallen. No gunfire. No cries or curses. No howl or snarl of a wolf. Nothing. He looked up the slope to the trees from which the ambushing fire had come, but he could detect no sign of movement, of either humans or wolves.
