Chapter Four
Leaving their car parked in the lane, Carl and Harry crossed the street and walked into City Hospital. The reception lobby was deserted, apart from the store holders preparing for the daily influx of visitors that would begin at ten.
Carl showed his ID to the woman sitting at the reception desk. ‘Inspector West, City Police. I need to talk to someone senior from HR.’
‘Can I say what it’s about?’ said the receptionist.
‘Tell them it’s an urgent police matter,’ said Carl.
Carl tapped his fingers together while she made the call. He’d never liked being in a hospital, and City Hospital, with its connection to Nina’s brush with death, especially unnerved him. He took a deep breath and waited.
‘Mr Nelson will be down in a moment, Inspector. He’s the head of HR.’
‘Thank you,’
