I stood with the rest of the crew in the training yard behind the Alryn Fire Station, helmet tucked under my arm while the captain barked instructions.
“Cabral! You’re up.”
I quickly went to the front and followed through the drill exercises. The drills were pretty straightforward. Hose handling, ladder climbs, extraction procedures, and more to prepare us for actual emergencies. I kept my strength carefully leashed; every movement is measured, even my speed. My wolf isn’t a fan of living out in the human world, but understands it was for the better, and adjusting to remain normal in front of the humans is a must. Being faster or stronger than necessary here would raise questions I couldn’t afford.
