Chapter 11We were almost three weeks into our voyage and within sight of the straits between the coasts of Lucinia and Tingitana that formed our gateway into the Sea of Wyrms. We were keeping as close as possible to the southern shore, hoping to avoid being spotted by the Republic’s coastal outposts or patrol ships, and keeping a round-the-clock lookout in case we were unfortunate. The sun had almost set, and I stood at the prow, gazing out upon the dark shapes of the approaching headlands, when it dawned upon me that one of the shadows I had been observing had drifted apart from the mass of the shoreline: a low, domed shape that might have passed for a distant island, except that as we drew closer to it, it became clear that it was also drawing closer to us, under its own momentum.
