5 - Amanda's A White Wolf?

Danny’s POV

“Danny, I am here to listen to anything you want to talk to me about” Doctor Drury, a small woman with blonde hair, tells me.

“What do you want me to talk about?” I asked, not really wanting to answer because I know she wants me to talk about my father and brother and I don’t want to talk to her about them.

“How about your Grandma Nelly, what was she like?” she said, and I let out a long breath. I can do that.

“She was my mother’s mother. She loved me like I was her son” I answered, smiling at my memories of my grandmother. Besides the one bad memory of the day she died, my memories of grandma Nelly were fond ones.

“Did she talk to you about your mother?” she asked as I sucked in another breath.

“Yes, all the time; she would always tell me how kind and caring mum was. She hated Dad and was pissed that he was mum’s fated mate. But she said, Goddess Selene must know, dad needed mum to show him humility or something like that”, I told her as she nodded her head and wrote something in her notebook.

“Then she died, giving birth. Did she tell you how?” she asked, and I frowned at this line of questioning.

“Yes, mum had placenta previa and hemorrhaged during the birth. They couldn’t stop the bleeding and bled out. I don’t understand most of it, but that’s what she told me”, I answered, trying to answer as quickly as I could about it.

“Then what happened?” she continued her questions. I should have known we were going to end up talking about James and Todd.

“When mum died, dad wanted to kill me. He said I shouldn’t have been born. She stepped in and took me away. Dad had already named me, and she refused to call me Error. She said, Mum wanted to call me Danny and that is my real name”. I yelled; irritated she made me talk about what they did to me.

“I see” she said, writing something down on a notepad. “I will try and explain a few things to you. Give you a bit more of an understanding. First, Placenta Previa is when the placenta obstructs the cervix.”

I look at her confused,“I only went to school until I was 10, I still don’t know what it means.”

“It means the sack that fed you in your mum’s tummy; the placenta; covered the exit you come through to be born; the cervix. It can cause bleeding, and can be very risky. Your mum must have loved you, to still have you, knowing the risks”, she explained as I nodded my head. That's what grandma Nelly would always say to me. Then there was James...

“James didn’t think so” I snarled at her.

“No, he probably didn’t. People grieve in different ways" she said as I opened my mouth to say something, and she put her hand up to stop me. "I am not justifying what he did, because it was not right and your Grandma Nelly knew that. His grief caused him to do those things."

“So, you are telling me, he has been grieving for the last 18 years?” I yelled. Her explanations make me angry.

“No” “Then, what then?” I spat, cutting her off as she put her hands up in front of her.

“Greif was the beginning. I can’t tell you where it went from there, without talking to your father. My assumption is, he started to believe his justification and Todd followed the lie. Todd is only going on one person’s version of events”, she explained as I sucked in another breath.

“That makes sense, but they still didn’t need to starve me; almost to death. They didn’t need to hurt me so much, for me to want to kill myself”, I told her, trying not to sound as angry as I felt.

“That is true. I am here to listen to what you have to say and put it into perspective for you. Once you have a perspective, you will be able to process the situation and move forward. Doesn’t mean you have to forgive what they did. Just understand it to move forward and not make the same mistakes they did” she responded as I slumped back into my seat.

“Is that what Goddess Selene meant by revenge is not always the answer?” I asked.

She looked up from her notepad with a shocked expression crossing her face. “Goddess Selene?”

“Yes. When I stabbed myself in the neck, I didn’t die. I went to a place where Goddess Selene was. She said she was sending me back here to be with my mate. But she said, I had a choice: to forgive those who hurt me or not; that was my decision. But to remember revenge is not always the answer. Is that what she meant?” I asked her again.

Doctor Drury made another note in her notepad before answering me. “Did Goddess Selene tell you why she wanted you to be with your mate?” she asked, and I shook my head.

“She said we both need one another, why do you ask?” I questioned as she placed the pen on top of the notepad.

“No reason. I was curious, I guess. It’s not often we get to talk to Goddess Selene. To answer your question, I do believe that is what she meant. Seeking revenge will put you in the same category as your father and brother. You are stronger than they are. I can see it, and it sounds like Goddess Selene can also”, she told me as I nodded my head. I get the feeling she isn't telling me everything, I don't know why, I hardly know her. “I think we can call it a day. Can I talk to you tomorrow? I would like Claudia here with you; if that is, OK?” she asked as I nodded my head and she left the hospital room.

“What do you think she is hiding?” I asked Jesse as he looked at the closed door of the hospital room through my eyes.

“Not sure. It has something to do with Claudia. We will find out tomorrow, no doubt” he answered and I nodded my head. “She is right about seeking revenge. We will be no better than James or Todd.”

“Danny, we could look at taking your feeding tube, catheter and drip out. Get you up and about” Doctor Elliot said, coming into the room.

“Ok. Where’s Claudia?” I asked, looking out of the now opened door as he began to remove the drip from my arm.

“Talking with Isabella” he answered, as she came into the room.

“I’m ready to help” she said, smiling in my direction.

I looked into her blue eyes to see if I can sense what Doctor Drury was leaving. “Doctor Drury wants to see both of us tomorrow” I said as Claudia nodded her head.

“She told me outside, is that OK with you?” she questioned, looking down at me and grabbing my hand. I don’t understand the question. Why wouldn’t it be? I nodded my head as she beamed a smile at me; “I’m glad, I didn’t want you to feel uncomfortable with me in the room.”

“Claudia; can you hold Danny’s hand while I take the feeding tube out. It may be a bit uncomfortable Danny”, Doctor Elliot said as she held on tighter. The pulling of the tube did feel uncomfortable, just as much as the catheter being removed. “I want you to try and stand Danny. You will be a bit shaky.” I put my legs over the side of the bed and onto the floor. “You may want to hold onto the side of the bed.”

I grabbed hold of the bed rails and lifted myself up as my legs buckled from under me and I fell forward. “It’s OK; you have been immobile for a few months”, Doctor Elliot explained, lifting me under my arm and helping me to stand again. I leaned up against him, placing my weight onto my legs. When I became steadier, he released my arms and I looked over at Claudia, giving her a big smile.

She smiled back, “Do you want to go for a walk?” I nodded my head and grabbed her hand again, before heading out the door and up the corridor.

“What does Doctor Drury want to talk to both of us about?” I asked Claudia as she looked around us.

“I will answer you, but not here” she exclaimed, and I looked around the corridor of the hospital. What doesn’t she want to say in the hospital? We headed out the main door and headed to a grassy area. “Let’s sit over there” she said, pointing to a wooden bench.

She ushered us to the bench and I sat down next to her. We only walked a few hundred yards, but I was already starting to feel tired. “She wants to talk to you, about me” Claudia said, a frown starting to show on her face.

“What about?” I asked, concerned as she looked around us again.

“When I was 16, a few years after Mandy came to me, I was kidn*pped. The people who took me held me hostage. They said they wanted to wait until I was 18, so the Alpha's son could mate with me” she explained, a tear trickling down her face.

I wiped the tear from her cheek as Jesse started growling in my mind. “Why, would they do that?” I asked, trying not to show the rage that was starting to build inside me.

“Because of Mandy...” she started to answer as I stared into her blue eyes. Why would Amanda, her wolf be important to other people?

Then it hit me; “Goddess Selene” I whispered.

“Pardon?” she asked, narrowing her eyes at me.

“Goddess Selene said my mate was one of her chosen. Amanda’s a white wolf, isn’t she?” I whispered as she nodded her head. “Why would I be mated to you? I can’t protect myself, let alone you and Amanda...” “Not yet; but you will, soon. Doctor Drury has a theory; she would like to share it with both of us” she answered, cutting off my rant.

What could it be? I am a weak, untrained wolf. “Let’s just wait and see what Doctor Drury says tomorrow” Jesse said, as Claudia slumped back on the chair.

“I don’t know if I can handle what I need to do, to be able to protect Claudia and Amanda from people who want to take her.” “One day at a time, Danny. That’s all we can do”, Jesse interrupted as I let out a long breath.

No, I need to start now. “Who do I need to see to start training? I want to protect you and Amanda. I don’t want anyone touching you” I growled as Claudia's eyes bulged open.

“You need to wait until Doctor Elliot says you are ready. You got tired walking over here” she explained with love in her eyes as the shock subsided.

“No, now. I need to do this now” I said, standing up from the bench and started to walk back to my room.

“Let’s go talk to Doctor Elliot, ask him when you can start” she said, racing up beside me and taking my hand as we walked back inside the hospital. “I don’t think I need to tell you; Amanda, being a white wolf needs to be kept a secret” she whispered, looking up into my eyes.

“I know; Grandma Nelly told me. She said they are Goddess Selene’s chosen, and they need to be protected from people who want to use them for their power. She said we may never meet one though” I smiled, looking down at her beautiful face.

“Not only will you meet her, you will be mated with her” she laughed as I let out a sigh, and we walked into my room. I pushed the buzzer, calling a nurse to my bed.

“Is everything OK, Danny?” Nurse Jennifer asked, coming into my room.

“Yes; I need to speak with Doctor Elliot please. Can you let him know we want to talk to him?” I replied, sitting down on the bed.

Jennifer glanced at Claudia and then myself. “He is doing his rounds. I will let him know to come in when he is done”, she told us, walking out of the room again.

“I called Dad too. He is on his way”, Claudia said, sitting next to me on the bed.

“Why is Alpha Henry coming?” I asked her as she began to blush.

“He will be the one training you" she replied as I linked my fingers around hers, and we waited for the two gentlemen to arrive.
