ATTACK

1051 Words
Harris' POV: The shot that broke the window, almost broke me too. The moment I heard Kara’s scream, I turned around to face her. My eyes widened the moment I saw the blood around her shoulder and her hand. For one terrifying second, I couldn't breathe. “Kara.” I screamed, pushing her down, so she wouldn’t be hit by more bullets, “Drive,” I screamed at my driver, who immediately slammed his foot down on the accelerator. Even though my SUV was faster than the cars of the attackers, I knew it wouldn’t be easy to escape. I called out her name again before she looked up at me with a pale expression on her face. Her eyes were wide with shock. This was clearly the first time she had been shot. I kept my hand on her shoulder, and began to press softly on the wound where the bullet had hit her. The sight of her blood sent something cold through my chest. “Stay down!” I shouted. “We will be out of here soon.” I couldn’t even finish my words before another burst of gunfire erupted outside. The driver’s windshield began to c***k, and a sinking feeling began to rise up within me. “Go faster!” I barked. “I’m trying, sir!” The driver answered, his face filled with rage. The SUV lurched forward as the driver started to maneuver around the other cars on the road. I turned my attention towards Kara, who was still staring at me with shock in her gaze. “Are you okay?” I asked with a low tone, She clearly wasn’t. But I wanted to keep her talking, so I kept on asking questions. “I—” Her lips parted, but she couldn’t get one word out. Another bullet struck the side of the SUV, and this time, I was the one who was forced to duck. I clenched my jaw hard. The damn vehicle was bulletproof, but that was only to certain calibers of bullets. The attackers – whomever they may be – were clearly prepared because they were using rifle bullets. This wasn’t just a group of people trying to scare us, they actually wanted us dead. For a moment, there was silence. But I knew this was just a temporary lull. But I needed information. I needed to know who the attackers were. So, I did something stupid. I took a deep breath before looking out of the shattered window. The attackers were in two vehicles. One of the cars was right behind us, and the other was beside us. They were working together, deliberately boxing us in. “Who the hell are they?” the driver shouted. “I don't know!” The car swerved, but a second later, it recovered and moved closer. My heart hammered against my chest, this was clearly not random. It had been planned, and that meant, my route had been leaked. I had no idea if I was their target, or if Kara was. But right now, that didn’t matter. The only thing that did was survival. I looked at Kara again. The pain and shock were the worst part of her injury. The bullet had not hit any artery, so her blood had stopped pooling up, but the pain was clearly still there. “Stay with me,” I whispered. My voice snapped her out of her daze, and she looked up at me before forcing a smile on her face. “I’m fine.” “You've been shot.” I answered, “You don’t have to act strong. None of us are fine right now.” “I said I'm fine.” she hissed, her pain clearly turning to anger. She took a deep breath and tried to sit upright. But I heard her tightly. “Don’t Kara,” I whispered, “They are still shooting at us.” Her eyes met mine. But I didn’t see fear like I expected, I saw rage. She had clearly made a decision, but before she could do anything. The vehicle behind us accelerated and hit our back bumper so hard that the SUV jerked and Kara was thrown against me. I quickly wrapped an arm around her, in order to stop her from hitting the door. I let out a sigh of relief, at least that didn’t — I froze, because right across from the other window. An attacker was raising his weapon – straight at Kara. My blood ran cold. “No!” My scream immediately alerted Kara, who turned around and spotted the gun pointed right at her. The moment the man pulled the trigger, Kara's eyes suddenly changed and her entire aura changed. Her face became completely still, and her eyes locked on the vehicle. And then, she did something that shocked me to my core. She slowly lifted her hand, and the attacking vehicle suddenly jerked upwards. It was only the bumper part and the back tires. But that was enough for the entire car to start spinning through the air. Kara's hands trembled from the effort she had used, and blood was beginning to run down her nose. But she was clearly not done. My mouth fell open as she somehow managed to lift the second car. The attackers started to scream. But Kara was too mad to even hear them. She clenched her fists, and then slammed the car she lifted on top of the other car that she had flipped. Metal twisted, glass shattered and the world went still. My driver blinked, and turned to face her with shock and fear in his eyes. “S-Sir…” his lips were trembling now. “Just drive,” I hissed, then, turned my attention towards Kara. The moment I held her, her body went limp, her eyes grew shot, and her head landed hard against my chest. She had used so much force, so much power that she had over exerted herself. I looked at the driver who was still staring back at me with fear in his eyes, “Sir, what the hell just happened?” he screamed, “How did she-” “Get us to the Hospital,” I ordered, cutting him off, “Now!”
