Chapter ElevenTHE BURNING BUILDING The laptop, which had been left unattended in the house, burst into flames. The police officers fled Lori's home just as it exploded. The streets were slick with ice. Flames licked into the dark cold winter night. An ambulance ululated on the too familiar streets. Drake lay, still impaled on the knife, on a stretcher in the ambulance on his way to the hospital to be pronounced DOA, his friends proceeding to the cop station downtown, Lori dazed and screaming. “Look at that, will ya?” The neighbors brought their coffee cups and stared; some wore housecoats. “You look.
