CHAPTER THREE

1063 Words
The day passed by so quickly that Elena barely had time to think. Meetings, emails, schedules—everything blurred together until she suddenly realized the office was quieter than usual. When she checked the time, it was already past seven in the evening. Her shoulders slumped slightly. She was exhausted. All she wanted was to go home, lie down, and forget the entire day ever happened. Then she remembered. Adrian. The decision. A dull headache began to form at the back of her head. She had already made up her mind that morning. She was going to turn it down. There was no way she could agree to something like that. It was too much. Too strange. Too complicated. She packed her things slowly, trying not to think about it. Just as she reached for her bag, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen and sighed. Ana. For a moment, she considered ignoring the call. But she picked up. “Hi, Ana,” she said, forcing a light tone. “Hi, Elena… I’m sorry to call this late,” her sister said. Her voice sounded uneasy. “I wouldn’t if it wasn’t important.” Elena straightened slightly. “What’s wrong? Is Mum, okay?” “Mum is fine,” Ana replied quickly. “It’s the landlord… he increased the rent. I don’t think I can cover it this month.” Silence. Elena closed her eyes briefly, running a hand through her hair. Of course. Of course, something else had to go wrong. She could already feel the pressure building again—tight, suffocating. “How much?” she asked quietly. Ana told her. Elena’s grip on her phone tightened. That was not a small amount. “I’ll figure something out,” she said after a moment, even though she had no idea how. “You already do so much—” “I said I’ll handle it,” Elena cut in, softer this time. “Don’t worry.” They ended the call shortly after. For a few seconds, Elena just stood there, staring at nothing. Then her eyes slowly shifted to her desk. To the document. Adrian’s offer. Her stomach tightened. Just hours ago, she had been so sure. Now… She picked up the file. And without giving herself time to overthink it— She turned and walked toward his office. *** Adrian looked up when she entered. This time, he didn’t pretend to be distracted. His attention was fully on her. Elena stepped in, closing the door behind her. “I’ve made my decision,” she said. He didn’t interrupt. Didn’t rush her. Just watched. She walked further into the office and sat down on the sofa, placing the document on the table between them. Adrian joined her shortly after. They went through the agreement again—this time slower. More deliberate. He explained each clause carefully, making sure she understood what it meant, what it involved, what boundaries existed. Elena listened. Really listened. Her earlier hesitation was still there—but now it was mixed with something else. Resolve. “So,” she said after a while, “do you have a safe word?” Adrian shook his head slightly. “No.” Her brows lifted. “You don’t think you need one?” “I won’t use one,” he replied calmly. That made her pause. “And how am I supposed to know when you’ve had enough?” she asked. His gaze held hers. “In this arrangement,” he said, “you decide that.” There was no arrogance in his tone. Just certainty. “You give the commands,” he continued. “I follow.” Elena felt something shift in her chest. It was subtle. But it was there. She looked down at the document one last time. Then she signed it. The sound of the pen against paper felt louder than it should have. Final. Real. She placed it down carefully, her fingers brushing lightly against the edge of the table as she steadied herself. Her heart was beating faster now. “So…” she said, her voice quieter than before. “When do we begin?” Adrian’s expression softened—just slightly. “You decide.” That answer lingered in the air between them. Elena stood up. For a brief moment, uncertainty flickered across her face. Then she pushed it down. If she was going to do this— She had to commit. She straightened her posture and looked at him. “Stand up.” Her tone was firmer now. Not perfect. But steady. Adrian didn’t hesitate. He stood immediately. That alone sent a small wave of something unfamiliar through her. Control. She stepped closer, her movements slower this time, more intentional. She stopped just in front of him. Close enough to feel the shift in his breathing. Then she stepped back slightly, creating space again. “Kneel.” This time, there was no hesitation at all. Adrian lowered himself without question, his posture composed even in submission. His head dipped slightly. Elena watched him for a moment. Taking it in. This was real. He was really doing this. She exhaled slowly, then reached out, lifting his chin just enough for him to look at her. Her voice, when she spoke again, was calmer. More controlled. “We won’t go further today,” she said. A pause. “But this has already started.” His gaze didn’t waver. “Until I say otherwise,” she continued, “you don’t seek any form of… release.” She hesitated slightly on the word, but didn’t break eye contact. “If you do,” she added, her tone sharpening just a little, “there will be consequences.” Silence. Then— “Yes.” His voice was steady. Obedient. Something about that made her chest tighten again. Not fear. Not quite confidence either. Something in between. Something new. She released his chin and stepped back. “We’ll continue another time.” Adrian remained where he was for a second longer before slowly rising to his feet. The room felt different now. Charged. Unfamiliar. Elena turned toward the door, her thoughts racing despite the calm expression on her face. Because deep down— She knew this wasn’t just an agreement anymore. It was the beginning of something she didn’t fully understand yet. And there was no going back.
