Jiang Tingyun went back to eating her roast chicken.
She also brought out a bunch of marinated chicken wings and beef, brushed them carefully with honey, and put them on the grill.
Just as the chicken wings were about done, *thump thump thump*—the yard gate was knocked on again.
Jiang Tingyun wanted to hit someone. Why was it so hard to eat some chicken?
Jin Feifan was good at reading the room. He immediately stood up. "Sect Master, I'll get the door!"
He opened the gate, and there stood Old Mr. Zhou Zhongming. He poked his head in, sniffing the air. "Oh, what smells so good! What are you roasting?"
Jiang Tingyun was surprised. "We're not open today, Old Sir. What brings you here?"
Zhou Zhongming walked into the yard and turned around. "Old Xu, come in. Stop looking around. This is the place."
Then he turned back. "Boss Jiang, I'm not here to eat today. I brought a friend of mine. We have something to discuss with you."
As he spoke, a middle-aged man in a black polo shirt walked in.
Zhou Zhongming introduced him. "This is Xu Weiguang, the marketing manager of Fenghuang Film Studio."
"And this beautiful lady is Boss Jiang of Qionghua Eatery, the one I told you about."
Jiang Tingyun had no idea what was going on, but she stood up anyway, feeling confused. "Hello, hello!"
She was about to shake hands when she realized she had a brush in one hand and a chicken wing in the other. She could only raise them awkwardly.
"Hahaha, I told you Boss Jiang knows how to cook. These chicken wings smell amazing, don't they?" Zhou Zhongming laughed.
Once the three of them sat down, Jiang Tingyun finally figured out why they were here.
It turned out that with Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day) approaching, Fenghuang Film Studio was planning to produce a local food and culture variety show in partnership with the local TV station.
The plan was to invite a few celebrities to tour the film studio's shooting bases and climb Fenghuang Mountain to take in the local scenery, all to promote the area's tourist attractions.
One evening, they had specially arranged a live stream event to introduce Fenghuang Mountain's signature local dishes, where the celebrities would participate in making and tasting the food.
The local specialties were Fenghuang wontons and Fenghuang tofu.
Fenghuang wontons used locally raised black pork and specialty vegetables as filling, with a unique wrapping method, resulting in an incredibly fresh flavor.
Fenghuang tofu was made from locally grown soybeans. When cooked in a clay pot with side dishes, it had an unmatched texture and unique flavor.
Almost every farmhouse restaurant nearby sold these two dishes. Jiang Tingyun had also sold them for a while.
After eating at her place, Zhou Zhongming had been full of praise. So when his friend mentioned that this event needed a local farmhouse restaurant to partner with, he immediately recommended Qionghua Eatery.
Jiang Tingyun wasn't actually very interested in getting on TV or appearing on a variety show. Her reaction was pretty lukewarm.
Manager Xu Weiguang had originally thought that with his friend's extremely picky palate, Qionghua Eatery must be outstanding.
But seeing that although the place had a charming rustic feel with its flowers and plants, the decor was ordinary and the scale was quite small, he started having second thoughts.
Then he noticed that Boss Jiang was a young woman, not very old either.
So he said, "To be honest, we haven't finalized anything yet. If this isn't convenient for you, we were actually planning to go with Defa's Farmhouse Kitchen. They were very interested and supportive of the event."
"Defa's Farmhouse Kitchen??!!" Jiang Tingyun and everyone at Qionghua Sect shouted in unison.
Getting on TV was a golden opportunity for publicity. Jiang Tingyun had been hesitant because it seemed like a hassle, but if Qionghua Eatery didn't take it and it went to Defa's Farmhouse Kitchen instead—
She hadn't forgotten their sneaky rat-throwing stunt. There was no way she was letting that kind of lowlife get this opportunity.
She quickly said, "Manager Xu, I have no problem at all. Hold it right here!"
Zhou Zhongming's influence was indeed significant. Even though Xu Weiguang still had some reservations, once Qionghua Eatery agreed, he didn't waste any words. He pulled a pre-prepared contract out of his bag.
Jiang Tingyun read the terms carefully, confirmed there were no issues, and signed it.
As soon as the contract was signed, Manager Xu pulled out a detailed folder from his bag. The first pages covered the tour itinerary of the film studio and Fenghuang Mountain.
The last page was the detailed script for the specialty food live stream event.
He handed it to Jiang Tingyun as he spoke. "This specialty food promotion event is a bit special. Besides being edited into part of the variety show, some segments will be live streamed."
"The content is: you'll guide the celebrities in making Fenghuang tofu and wrapping Fenghuang wontons, and finally, you'll all taste them together."
Jiang Tingyun nodded as she listened.
For the tofu, the celebrities would symbolically grind some soybeans, but the tofu used for the final cooking would be prepared in advance.
Same for the wontons—she would need to prepare the wrappers and filling ahead of time. The celebrities would just symbolically wrap a few. When it came time to eat, they'd be eating the ones she made.
The focus was on the tasting segment at the end. That part would be live streamed for real, with no editing.
The celebrities were getting paid, so they'd definitely praise the food in all sorts of ways. But Jiang Tingyun still had to make everything look and taste good.
At the very least, the cameras needed to capture some appealing shots to attract more tourists to come and try the food later.
Jiang Tingyun listened and took frantic notes. She used to watch live streams and variety shows and actually thought everyone was just having fun and eating together. She never knew there was so much planning behind the scenes.
Zhu Lili had been listening for a while and couldn't hold back anymore. She asked, "Manager Xu, so who are the celebrities this time?"
Xu Weiguang smiled mysteriously. "We've booked two. Cheng Yuanqi, the leader of the fresh meat boy band Strawberry Sweetheart, and Zhang Xinzi, the queen of scandalous fame."
Fenghuang Film Studio had really spared no expense this time. Neither of these people had any particularly outstanding work to their names—they weren't top-tier in the entertainment industry.
But both of them brought their own traffic and had huge fan bases.
Cheng Yuanqi went without saying—a handsome guy who could sing, dance, and play instruments. Just having him there guaranteed no shortage of female fans.
Zhang Xinzi was a bit older—more of an "older sister" type—but she was a walking controversy magnet who easily sparked discussion.
She'd previously claimed she couldn't shoot action scenes without a stunt double because of her health. More recently, she'd said she had an eating disorder. In short, nothing she said was true, and she was always getting trashed online.
But who said bad buzz wasn't still buzz? Being able to get people angry at you was a skill in itself.
Zhu Lili jumped up excitedly. These two were real big stars!
Even though the variety show's main focus was on Fenghuang Film Studio and Fenghuang Mountain, and their little farmhouse restaurant was just a side feature to promote the local food—
This was still so exciting! She would get to see celebrities up close!
Jiang Tingyun, as the restaurant owner, would also be playing the role of the cooking instructor NPC. She had a precious chance to appear on camera.
She secretly wondered if she should start taking better care of her skin and get some beauty treatments.
She didn't want to look like a disheveled mess on TV and embarrass herself in front of the whole country.
