**Chapter 78: Someone Wants to Buy the Cabbage**

1235 Words
Zeng Fubai didn't have time to dwell on that last stolen piece of meat. His attention had shifted to the freshly arrived goat, cabbage, and vermicelli clay pot. It was a white-broth dish — not a lot of goat meat, but plenty of cabbage. He quickly grabbed a small bowl and ladled himself a full bowl of the broth. It was milky white and incredibly rich. One sip, and his eyes closed in bliss. *Such a rich, delicious flavor!* The chef was honest — the broth was definitely the original stock, full of savory depth, not watered down. And on top of that, there was an unexpected hint of fresh, sweet vegetal flavor that blended perfectly with the savory goat. A whole bowl down, and he didn't feel greasy at all. There was even a subtle, almost elusive sweetness that lingered on his tongue. He opened his eyes — and saw his grandfather rapidly fishing all the cabbage out of the clay pot and into his own bowl. He'd already piled up a heaping bowlful. Zeng Fubai sighed. "Grandpa, I was just joking when I competed with you for the meat earlier. You go ahead and eat more goat — don't just settle for cabbage." Old Zeng just chuckled. "Oh, no, no — I have to respect the young too, right? You have the meat. I'll reluctantly take care of this cabbage." Zeng Fubai narrowed his eyes. Something was off. *Definitely* something was off. His grandfather was never this modest when it came to food. Was it the cabbage...? His suspicion growing, Fubai picked up a big bundle of cabbage with his chopsticks and put it in his mouth. The moment it hit his tongue, his whole body jolted. "Holy s**t! This is *cabbage*?!" How was it better than the meat? Not believing it, he took another big bite. Crisp, tender, refreshingly sweet, blending perfectly with the goat flavor — impossible to stop eating. Zeng Fubai had a sensitive palate. He'd discovered what was so special about Qionghua Eatery! Most people who came here would focus on the goat. Most would just think the chef had perfected goat dishes — the boiled goat with dipping sauce was incredibly savory, the clay pot was sweet and rich without being greasy. But Zeng Fubai had seen the secret. The best thing in this restaurant wasn't even the goat. It was the chili peppers and the cabbage! The quality of those two ingredients was exceptionally good. Where did the chef source them? And the cooking technique for the cabbage and chili was nothing to sneeze at either — everything was just right, bringing out the full flavor of both vegetables. Truly top-notch. "Grandpa, you weren't exaggerating this time. The food at Qionghua Eatery is seriously something else." Zeng Fubai said seriously. "After we eat, let's not leave right away. I want to find some time to talk to the chef." Old Zeng smiled and nodded in agreement. He knew his grandson ran a food account. Every time he ate something delicious, he turned into a different person — had to chase the chef with all kinds of questions and then write a whole essay about it. They waited a good while until all the goat dishes were sold out before the rush at Qionghua Eatery finally died down. When he saw someone emerge from the kitchen, Zeng Fubai immediately went over. He looked up — and was a little surprised. He hadn't expected the chef at Qionghua Eatery to be such a young woman. "Hello? Are you the chef here?" Jin Feifan was clearing dishes and chimed in, "She's not just the chef — she's the boss too." Zeng Fubai was instantly filled with respect. He quickly extended his hand. "Nice to meet you, nice to meet you." Tingyun's hands were covered in goat fat, but she somehow ended up shaking hands with him. "Uh... nice to meet you too. Is there something you need?" Zeng Fubai raved, his tone exaggerated. "Boss, I ate at your place today, and honestly, your goat dishes are absolutely amazing. But that's not even the best part — especially your chili oil and cabbage. The flavor is incredible, the quality is top-notch!" Tingyun's eyes lit up. Everyone had been praising the goat, but finally — someone with a good palate. "Hey — you've got good taste. I grew those cabbages and chili peppers myself in the backyard. You won't find that flavor easily on the market." "Grew them yourself? That's amazing, Boss. Running such a popular place and still growing your own produce — that's incredible." Zeng Fubai had assumed the ingredients came from some special source — he never imagined the chef grew them herself. He was so curious — how did she grow vegetables that tasted this good? So he asked, a little hesitantly, "Boss, could I take a look at your vegetable fields?" Tingyun was always proud of her farmland, and since this guy was so complimentary, she agreed right away. "Sure! Absolutely. Come with me." Zeng Fubai quickly followed. They went out the little back door — and the view opened up completely! The back of the house had a huge stretch of farmland, carefully divided by fences. Even though it was still winter, somehow the vegetables were thriving — all kinds of them growing lushly. Besides big, hearty cabbages, there were leafy greens, cilantro planted in between, and various cold-hardy vegetables like lettuce, garlic sprouts, and peas. In the distance, more fields were covered with plastic sheeting — hard to tell what was growing there. Zeng Fubai couldn't help exclaiming, "Boss, you call *this* a backyard? With this much land? I thought it was just a small garden!" Tingyun scratched her head. "Heh heh." Beyond the farmland, rolling mountains rose in the distance. Even in winter, they were covered in evergreens. Against the clear blue sky and white clouds, the flat fields and distant peaks perfectly embodied that famous line from the ancient poet Tao Yuanming: "Picking chrysanthemums beneath the eastern fence, leisurely I gaze at the southern mountain." Zeng Fubai couldn't help pulling out his phone and snapping several photos. "Boss, you're so close to the mountains too. And they're beautiful." Tingyun couldn't resist showing off. "Heh — the mountains are mine too." "......Damn!" Zeng Fubai looked at Tingyun in shock, then at the neat fields, then around at the beautiful landscape. He was green with envy. Tingyun couldn't help smiling to herself. How did this happen? She'd always thought Qionghua Sect was so poor they could barely afford to eat. But listing it all out like this — she realized she was actually a quite wealthy landowner. Zeng Fubai shook his head to snap himself out of his envy. He finally remembered what he'd come for. He followed Tingyun to the large cabbage patch. The cabbages were arranged in neat rows — each one huge and picture-perfect. To help the cabbages wrap tighter and look nicer, she had even carefully tied them up with string. He crouched down for a closer look. The cabbages weren't completely pest-free — there were a few tiny holes here and there — but that didn't detract from their crisp, green beauty. Just looking at the vibrant, dew-kissed leaves, he could already imagine how delicious they'd be. Zeng Fubai looked up and spoke seriously. "Boss, are you selling these cabbages?"
