**Chapter 71: Start of Winter – Time for Dumplings!**

1203 Words
After many rounds of adjustments, Jin Feifan finally finished the last modifications just before Start of Winter. The walker was done. The day before Start of Winter, Feifan grabbed Jiang Tingyun. "Sect Master, come with me to Osmanthus Alley tomorrow. I'm a bit embarrassed to go alone. Let's bring this walker to Granny Xiaoqiu together." "Sure. We'll close for lunch tomorrow then." Jiang Tingyun thought for a moment. "I need to buy some clothes and shoes in town anyway. I'll pick up some for Xiaoqiu too. It's really getting cold." The next day, Start of Winter, Jiang Tingyun and Jin Feifan headed to town with the walker. Osmanthus Alley was right by the market, where there were plenty of general stores and clothing shops. Tingyun picked a kids' clothing store that looked clean and decent quality. She gestured roughly for the height, and the shop lady picked out several children's sweaters and two little quilted jackets. Before Tingyun could even start bargaining, the shop lady gave her a really good discount right off the bat. Tingyun was over the moon and thanked her repeatedly. Was her charm just that strong? This shop lady sure knew how to treat people right. She paid happily, grabbed her stuff, and walked out. Feifan quickly pushed the walker and followed. After the two had gone far enough, the shop lady clicked her tongue and shook her head. "So pitiful. That young lady's husband is young but already partially paralyzed, and she's raising a kid too. Ah, I can't even bring myself to overcharge someone like that." --- When they reached Osmanthus Alley, Tingyun thought hard and found the courtyard gate from last time. The gate was slightly ajar. She knocked on the wooden latch and called out loudly. "Anyone home? Xiaoqiu? You here?" After a moment, light, quick footsteps approached, and a young voice answered, "Who is it? Who's looking for me?" The door opened, revealing Xiaoqiu's innocent, adorable face. "Huh? Aren't you the big sister who bought osmanthus last time? But it's cold now – there aren't any osmanthus flowers anymore." "Xiaoqiu, we're not here for osmanthus. That big brother from last time made something and wants to bring it to your grandma." Tingyun pushed Feifan forward. "Here, you tell her." Feifan gave a sheepish smile and rolled the walker out. Just then, rustling sounds came from the yard. Granny Xiaoqiu had heard the commotion and was also coming out, holding onto a chair. She was a bit surprised to see the two of them. "What's this? Is something wrong? It's fine – come in and talk." Feifan and Tingyun quickly pushed the walker inside, along with the clothes and quilted jackets. "Granny Xiaoqiu, here's the thing. I saw you had trouble walking before, so I made a walker myself and wanted to bring it to you." Feifan rolled the walker over to her, carefully explained how to use it, and demonstrated several times. Granny Xiaoqiu's lips trembled slightly, and her eyes reddened. "No, no need. This looks expensive. I don't need it." Tingyun had already snuck the clothes and jackets inside. She came back over and explained. "Granny Xiaoqiu, I know it's sudden of us to just show up, but you really have trouble walking. And Xiaoqiu is still little. Holding onto that chair all the time isn't good. Why don't you try this walker?" Feifan hurried over too. "Granny Xiaoqiu, I made this walker myself. All the materials came from the recycling yard – secondhand stuff. It didn't cost anything. Please don't feel bad about accepting it." Granny Xiaoqiu's expression grew even more emotional. "How could I feel bad? I just… I just feel bad taking it. Thank you so much. Someone like me – I'm not worth the trouble." The two of them comforted her a bit more. Finally, Granny Xiaoqiu put down the chair and grabbed hold of the Parkinson's walker that Feifan had made. The moment she tried it, she immediately noticed something special. It looked small, but it wasn't light at all – very stable. As she walked with it, somehow it steadied her trembling body a lot. She'd always been afraid of falling and couldn't even take a step. But with that laser guide, she followed the light and moved forward. Her freezing of gait improved right away – her legs stopped locking up. She wasn't that old to begin with, and after just a few laps back and forth, she'd fully adapted to the walker. Her steps grew smoother and smoother, and she was walking nearly as fast as a normal person. "Grandma! You're walking even faster than me!" Xiaoqiu ran over excitedly. "This is great! You won't fall at all now." Watching the joyful scene of the old and young together, Tingyun felt deeply moved. She glanced over at Feifan. That kid with the bleached-blond hair wasn't saying a word either. His eyes were a little red. Who knew what he was thinking? When she reached the steps, the walker still supported her effortlessly as she moved forward. Granny Xiaoqiu was completely astonished. "Young man, you have such skillful hands! You're amazing. This thing you made – it's really helped me so much." She grabbed Feifan's hand tightly. "Neither of you is leaving today. It's Start of Winter. I've made a lot of dumplings. You have to stay and eat." Feifan looked at Tingyun. She nodded. "Okay." --- Granny Xiaoqiu had Parkinson's disease. Besides not being able to take proper steps, her hands also shook slightly. But with her medication, the tremors weren't too bad. When she made dumplings, her hands still worked pretty well. They weren't beautiful, but she filled them generously. Every dumpling was plump and stuffed full. Tingyun lowered her head and sniffed lightly. "Granny Xiaoqiu, this is cabbage and pork, isn't it?" "That's right. You have to try my dumplings. When I was young, I was the best at making dumplings. Nobody within ten miles could make better dumplings than mine." Maybe because her walking had improved so much, Granny Xiaoqiu was in a great mood and was much more talkative. "Then I definitely have to try them," Feifan said with a smile. Then he pointed at Tingyun. "She makes amazing wontons, but she's not so good at buns or dumplings. They taste good, but they come out super ugly." Tingyun paused. "Who said that? That's ancient history. I totally know how to wrap them now!" As she spoke, she started making dumpling wrappers alongside Granny Xiaoqiu. At first, her hands were clumsy and her movements awkward – the wrappers came out uneven, some thick, some thin. But as she got into the rhythm, her movements became more and more precise, and soon wrappers were rolling off her hands in layers. She remembered the first time she'd made yard-long bean and pork buns. The dough had risen well, and the filling was seasoned right, but for some reason, they'd turned out hideous. But somehow, over the past half year – even though she hadn't really worked with dough much – her coordination and hand dexterity had gradually improved. If she had to make buns again now, she was sure they'd turn out beautifully.
