**Chapter 80: Daikon Convention**

Other people might not remember this vegetable patch. But Zhang Xinzi had gone through a life-or-death experience here — she remembered it vividly. The photo of the cabbage patch had been taken from a good angle, catching the mountain range in the background. Very distinctive. "It's Qionghua Eatery!" Zhang Xinzi exclaimed in surprise. She hadn't expected to stumble across this place again just randomly scrolling through Weibo. A moment later, she sighed. Her feelings about this place were really complicated. On the one hand, she'd almost kicked the bucket here. Her body still hadn't fully recovered. Her career had stalled. Several contracts with her agency had fallen through. She was still arguing with Fenghuang Film Base over compensation. But she also knew she couldn't completely blame the show crew. Her own health had been an issue too. She'd watched the video later. She knew Boss Jiang of Qionghua Eatery had acted decisively — given her CPR and taken her to the hospital. In a way, the owner of this place was her savior. At first, besides gratitude, she'd mostly felt fear. Fear that this boss would give interviews everywhere, say something inappropriate, capitalize on her mishap for publicity. But so much time had passed, and still nothing. She hadn't seen any interviews. No public statements. She'd been able to focus on recovering quietly. "Ah." Zhang Xinzi sighed again. She still hadn't even said thank you to that person. She'd been thinking about whether she should do something to express her gratitude for saving her life. She just didn't know what to give. Just sending money seemed insincere. Suddenly, she glanced at an ad playing on the local TV station — and was immediately drawn in. "Hey, that's perfect. Now I know what to give her as thanks." Zhang Xinzi's eyes lit up. "Since Boss Jiang has all that land, she can definitely use this." She thought for a moment, then called her assistant. "Xiao Lü, do me a favor. Send something to China for me." --- Ever since coming to Fenghuang Town, Jiang Tingyun rarely used Weibo. She had no idea that a couple of days ago, that customer named Zeng had written a whole essay praising her cabbages online and even used them as prizes in a Weibo lottery. She also didn't know that soon, she'd be receiving a surprise gift from overseas. Today was a beautiful day — sunny and warm. Tingyun was busy harvesting radishes. These were winter radishes. After months of watering and fertilizing, the plump white roots had pushed up out of the soil. The r****h greens were bright green and evenly spread — really beautiful. "Haha — even bigger than last time!" Tingyun was yanking radishes out of the ground fast. She was incredibly strong. Pulling radishes was child's play — just grab the greens and yank. One after another. As she worked, sweat beaded on her forehead despite the cool winter air. Liu Yanghe had gotten up early too. He was thinking about talking to Tingyun. Lately, he'd been practicing his water-attribute talent way too much. From the dining hall to the kitchen, from tables to dishes — he really couldn't take it anymore. He figured he'd catch the Sect Master when no one was around and ask if he could practice less. Honestly, he wasn't in a rush to upgrade his talent anyway. He opened the back door and was about to walk over — then stopped dead in his tracks, terrified by the scene of Jiang Tingyun pulling radishes with godlike strength. *Holy s**t!* She was pulling those radishes with so much force — it looked terrifying! Without thinking, he reached up and touched his own head, and strangely, his scalp started to ache. Strange. They'd both awakened their talents, but why did the Sect Master's physique seem so much better than his? Tingyun pulled one after another, tossing them aside. In no time, she'd filled a huge basket. She thought for a moment. Cabbage stored well, so she might as well pick some of that too. She walked over to the cabbage patch, got into a horse stance, grabbed a cabbage head with both hands, and twisted hard — *c***k*. The cabbage broke clean off the root, the motion so fast that one head rolled right into a drainage ditch. "Tch. This cabbage wouldn't cooperate." She clicked her tongue, ran over, and picked it up. *Help!* Liu Yanghe involuntarily touched his own neck. It suddenly felt cold. And kind of painful. He quietly backed away. Never mind. Forget talking to the Sect Master. He'd just keep training. Strength was important anyway. Jiang Tingyun didn't even notice him. She pulled out two plastic woven bags like magic and stuffed all the cabbages inside. She made several trips back and forth before she was done. After storing everything in the pantry, she stood looking at the neat piles of cabbage, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and potatoes, and stretched contentedly. *Food in the pantry, peace in the heart.* --- This year's r****h harvest had been excellent. There were many ways to eat radishes — besides stewing them with meat, you could also sun-dry them into r****h strips or pickle them into spicy-sour r****h slices. These preparations not only tasted great but, most importantly, could be stored for a long time. Tingyun called Zhu Lili and Uncle Liu to help clean the radishes. Dried r****h strips were easy to make. Cut off the greens, slice the radishes into strips, salt them to draw out the water, and lay them out on bamboo mats to dry in the sun. You didn't even need to peel them. Keeping the skin on gave them a nice chewy texture. Once the r****h strips were dried, you could toss them with chili powder, salt, sugar, and thirteen-spice powder when eating — perfect with congee. Or you could stir-fry them with minced meat or sliced pig's head meat. Great with rice too. For the other radishes, Tingyun sliced them thin, salted them to draw out water, then added rock sugar, black vinegar, garlic slices, and light soy sauce to pickle them. Finally, she poured over hot oil infused with chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, and put them in the fridge for a few hours. The result — spicy and sour pickled r****h slices. A perfect appetizer to go with rice. Once the radishes were mostly processed, Zhu Lili looked at the pile of discarded r****h greens with concern. "Sect Master, it's a shame we don't have pigs. These r****h greens would go to waste." Tingyun quickly stopped her. "No worries. Even without pigs, we still have you guys. These greens are too good to throw away or feed to pigs. Keep them. Blanch them in boiling water, chop them up, and stir-fry with minced meat. Delicious." Suddenly, Tingyun froze. Huh? Minced meat? She just realized — she'd forgotten something. Yesterday, they'd used up all the meat. She'd completely forgotten to go shopping today! "......" Whatever. Too much trouble to go buy some now. It wasn't the first time anyway... With all these radishes today, they'd just do radishes for lunch. Tingyun washed her hands, pulled out her phone, and typed a message. **Chef Jiang:** Today's menu — Spicy-Sour Pickled r****h Slices, r****h Soup, Braised r****h Clay Pot. Freshly picked radishes — super delicious. Come get some. **Mr. Qi Alfred:** Boss Jiang, did you forget part of the dish names?? **Brother Jie:** You mean r****h and pork rib soup, braised r****h and brisket clay pot, right? **Chef Jiang:** Nope, you're way off. Heh heh. That's exactly what I meant — no meat. **Mr. Qi Alfred:** ?? Where's the meat?!!!! **Chef Jiang:** Ahem. You know the saying — winter r****h beats summer ginger, r****h outperforms meat. No meat today, folks. Bear with me. **Big Head Loves Meat:** Here we go again... Boss, you're at it again!! Slacking off again! Tingyun guiltily stuffed her phone back in her pocket and stopped looking at the howling and wailing in the group chat.
