## Chapter 41: The Green Plum Sauce Ribs Were All Snapped Up

1134 Words
It wasn't until he'd finished the very last grain of rice that Xu Zijun finally put down his chopsticks and slumped contentedly in his chair. So good! Ah, no video games during the afternoon break today. He'd hit the gym for two hours instead. He was about to leave the private room when he noticed that Qionghua Eatery, which had been quiet and empty when he arrived, was now buzzing with noise. Outside the room, the air was filled with the chatter and laughter of customers. He carefully pushed the door open a c***k, took a peek, and nearly jumped. The tables outside were almost all full! To get out of Qionghua Eatery, Xu Zijun would have to walk through the crowd. He hesitated. He'd been pretty popular lately, and he really didn't dare to wander through a crowd. But he had sneaked out today with an excuse. If he didn't get back soon and his assistant couldn't find him, there would be trouble. After pacing back and forth a few times, Xu Zijun made up his mind. He put his mask and hat back on properly, smoothed down his hair, and bolted straight out the door with his head down. Luckily, he made it all the way out of Qionghua Eatery and back to the set without any obstacles. He didn't know whether he should be glad that no one had noticed him, or frustrated that he, an 18-tier celebrity, was really flattering himself. ... Li Wanzi and Fangfang's college had already started summer break. They had originally planned to go downtown for lunch and a movie. But that morning, they saw in the WeChat group that Qionghua Eatery had a big dish today—green plum sauce ribs. And it was limited edition too. As soon as "limited edition" was mentioned, they had to go. They rushed over without stopping, taking a tourist shuttle bus for over an hour to get to Fenghuang Mountain scenic area. Coming early wasn't as good as coming at the right time. They lucked out and snagged the very last order of green plum sauce ribs. Li Wanzi excitedly snapped a few photos and posted them in the group. --- **[Wanzi Loves Junjun: Last order of ribs, secured. Now I'm going to start eating. [photo]]** **[Mengmeng: Piggies are so cute. How can you eat piggies? Salty tears are flowing from the corner of my mouth. Crying.]** **[Big Head Loves Meat: I'm going crazy! I've already arrived! I didn't get any! Anyone in the group who got some, spare me one rib. Just one.]** **[Yue: One what? Spare one what?]** **[Wanzi Loves Junjun: Sorry everyone, bad signal at the bottom of the mountain. Not responding. I'm going to eat now, okay.]** **[Fangfang: Big Head... maybe ask Boss Jiang for some meat sauce to mix with your rice?]** **[Big Head Loves Meat: ...You guys have hearts of stone!]** --- Li Wanzi happily put down her phone and was about to dig in. But Fangfang elbowed her arm. "Hey, look behind you. That guy kinda looks like your idol Junjun." Li Wanzi casually turned her head and saw a boy in a hat and mask walking quickly down the aisle behind her and heading out. "Oh, I told you last time. There's a staff member here who looks a lot like my Junjun." Li Wanzi didn't think much of it. She eagerly picked up a rib with her chopsticks and took a bite without waiting any longer. The meat was incredibly tender, with a rich meaty flavor mixed with the fruity taste of green plums. The sweet and sour sensation shot straight from her molars to the top of her head. The ribs had absorbed so much of the green plum flavor that eating them felt like tasting the whole summer. The two of them just held the ribs and sucked on them with great relish, completely forgetting to talk. ... Jiang Tingyun was also a little surprised. She really hadn't expected so many customers to come at noon. She knew it was summer break now, but because the weather had been so hot this year, fewer people than usual were coming to hike. But customers kept arriving one after another. Most of them were regulars, and they specifically said they wanted the limited edition green plum sauce ribs. Jiang Tingyun was dumbfounded. As soon as she said "limited," they all showed up. Was this what they called hunger marketing? There were even several customers who hadn't gotten any ribs and just stood at the front counter refusing to leave. Sun Datou was hopping mad at the kitchen door. "Boss Jiang, I drove all the way from downtown! How can you have the heart to let me leave empty-handed?" Jiang Tingyun scratched her head. "The ribs are really gone, but there are other dishes." Sun Datou pointed at the menu outside and silently wept. "Does 'other dishes' mean stir-fried lettuce?" Jiang Tingyun suddenly felt embarrassed. She thought for a moment and said, "I have so many vegetables in the field behind. Pick any ones that are ripe, and I'll cook them for you. Or come back in the evening? I'll make more ribs tonight." Sun Datou had eaten at Qionghua Eatery many times. He had noticed that Boss Jiang's vegetables tasted amazing and she really knew how to cook them. But he was a meat lover through and through. Now, surrounded by the smell of meat in the air and listening to everyone around him noisily gnawing on ribs, he could only sit there eating greens. No matter how delicious those greens were, he couldn't take this kind of suffering. Sun Datou gave Jiang Tingyun a mournful look. "Boss, go ahead with your work. I'll come back tonight. You have to save me a portion of ribs tonight." Old Mr. Zhou Zhongming had also rushed over excitedly today. He didn't get any of the green plum sauce ribs, but when he heard that he could order any vegetables he wanted, his eyes lit up with an idea. He poked his head into the kitchen. "Boss Jiang, your pumpkin flowers look good. How about making me some pumpkin flower soup?" Jiang Tingyun chuckled to herself. This old man really knew how to eat. With all the vegetables in the back garden, he had to pick her few pumpkin flowers. She didn't refuse. She smiled and said, "Sure. In soup or fried?" Zhou Zhongming was especially happy. "Make me a soup!" The truth was, he was old and didn't eat much meat anyway. He had only come for the limited edition hype. But pumpkin flowers—he'd been craving those for a long time. No one around here made them. Being able to eat this dish today made the trip worth it.
