Jiang Tingyun felt genuinely amazed.
Phoenix Town was such a small place, but the local government really worked hard...
Setting up a stall at a night market actually sounded pretty fun. She’d never done anything like that before.
And honestly, she dreaded New Year’s Eve. In the past, she was either working the night shift at the hospital alone or watching the Spring Festival Gala by herself at home. This year, she might as well go sell food!
“Sure, why not? Save me a good spot.”
Xu Weiguang immediately pulled out his phone and started registering her information.
Jiang Tingyun leaned over. “Hey, do you know what other vendors are selling? I have no idea what to make for a stall.”
“Lots of things. I remember candied chestnuts, cotton candy, candied hawthorn skewers, fruit cups. Phoenix Restaurant is selling osmanthus rice balls in sweet wine.”
Xu Weiguang counted on his fingers as he spoke. “Defa Home Cooking seems to be doing teppanyaki squid. All kinds of stuff. You name it.”
Jiang Tingyun‘s mouth fell open.
“So people are burning incense in the temple while eating meat right outside. Isn’t that a little... um...”
Xu Weiguang cleared his throat. “It’s not that close. And it‘s the thought that counts, right?”
“So, Boss Jiang, have you thought about what you want to sell? No rush — there’s still a month. Just let me know when you decide.”
---
“Set up a stall on New Year‘s Eve?!” The Qionghua disciples all exclaimed in surprise when they heard the news.
Jiang Tingyun scratched her head. “Haha, when Manager Xu told me about it, I thought it sounded pretty interesting, so I said yes. But I can run the stall by myself. You guys can come or not, up to you.”
She thought for a moment, then asked, “Oh, by the way, Teacher Liu is going back to Shuiguang Sect for the New Year. Xiao Pei and Uncle Liu are definitely staying here. But what about you two, Jin Feifan and Zhu Lili?”
Jin Feifan grinned. “I’ve always spent New Year‘s at Qionghua Sect. My parents emigrated overseas. They don’t bother with me. Boss, I‘ll help you run the stall.”
“!”
Damn. A hidden rich kid. That didn’t match Jin Feifan‘s image at all! The guy used to eat plain steamed buns and drink cold water every day — not even a proper dish.
She looked at the half-worn “Adadis” sneakers on his feet. Even the logo on his cheap Anta jacket had an extra dot on it.
You really couldn’t judge a book by its cover.
Zhu Lili‘s face showed no particular emotion. She said flatly, “My parents divorced and remarried. I don’t have anywhere to go either. I‘ll stay at Qionghua Restaurant. And I’ll help at the night market.”
Jiang Tingyun didn‘t press for details. She nodded. “Alright then. Our Qionghua Sect will spend the New Year together!”
“We’ll have a steaming hotpot. We can start eating in the afternoon, haha, eat till evening, then get everything ready and head to the stall.”
Pei Jingmo couldn‘t help asking, “So what are we selling at the stall?”
“...”
Jiang Tingyun cleared her throat. “Ahem, no rush. New Year’s Eve is still far away. We‘ll figure it out later.”
Pei Jingmo was about to say something else when a loud shout came from outside the yard gate.
“Jiang Tingyun! Is Jiang Tingyun here? You’ve got a delivery!”
Huh? Who sent a package? She hadn‘t bought anything recently.
And deliveries here all went to the town’s collection point. You always had to go pick them up.
Why was this one coming straight to her door?
She walked outside, puzzled, and found a big truck with international logistics logos parked at her gate.
The delivery guy was holding a form, looking around.
“What is this? I haven‘t ordered anything.”
The courier quickly handed her the form. “See, it’s your name. Someone sent it to you. It‘s an international oversized item. I don’t even want to think about the shipping and taxes.”
Jiang Tingyun checked it — it was her name. She was about to sign when her hand froze. “Wait, do I have to pay for that?”
“No, no, it‘s DDP — duties and shipping are already settled. Just take the stuff.”
After she signed, the truck — which seemed to have an auto-unload feature — slowly lowered a giant box.
The ground in front of Qionghua Restaurant looked flat but was actually a little uneven. The box suddenly jolted and looked like it was about to tip over.
“! Oh crap!” The courier’s eyes went wide, but the box was too big and heavy to grab.
Pei Jingmo sprinted over, kicked out, and stopped the tipping box with his foot.
Jiang Tingyun rushed over to help steady it. The two of them didn‘t wait for the truck’s slow unload — one on each side, they carried the giant box straight into the yard.
The yard gate was just barely wide enough for the box to pass through.
“Thanks! We‘ve got it. Sorry for the trouble.” Jiang Tingyun called out to the courier once the box was down.
The courier’s jaw hit the floor.
What the hell. Was this some kind of joke? He knew how heavy that box was. They‘d needed a crane to load it onto the truck.
Were these two weightlifters or something?
Good grief. If they had that much strength, why run a restaurant? They should be in the Olympics!
This world was crazy. The courier shook his head in shock and stumbled back onto his truck.
Meanwhile, the Qionghua disciples were circling the box. Pei Jingmo easily ripped open the outer packaging.
Inside was a strange machine. Its exterior looked incredibly cool — kind of like a small cart, but without a cabin. It had four giant wheels, and the structure at the front was complex. No telling what it was for.
Jin Feifan rushed over. “This machine is so cool. Every part looks really well made.”
“So what exactly is it? What does it do? And who sent it to me?”
Jiang Tingyun searched through the box carefully. There should at least be a manual, right?
Instead, she found a card.
She picked it up, read for a moment, and couldn‘t help smiling.
“It’s from Zhang Xinzi — that big star who collapsed at our place before. She‘s thanking me. She said she saw how much land I was farming, so she sent me a farming robot.”
“A farming robot! Wow!” Zhu Lili and Jin Feifan practically jumped up in excitement.
That was so high-tech! Even farming had robots now!
Jiang Tingyun flipped through the manual. It was all in English, but it had lots of pictures. She and Jin Feifan studied it for a bit and quickly figured out how it worked.
The machine was big, but you didn’t need to sit on it. The open space in the middle was for carrying things. The whole thing ran on a manual remote control.
Besides transport, the robot also handled tilling, weeding, and spraying. It could do most of the basic prep work for farming.
Jiang Tingyun couldn‘t wait to try it. She steered the robot with the remote. The wheels — somehow — could rotate 360 degrees, making it extremely agile.
She drove the farming robot all the way from the front of the house around to the backyard. Even though the ground back there wasn’t perfectly level, the machine handled it flawlessly, as if on flat ground.
“This is incredible! This machine is amazing!”
Jiang Tingyun was so excited her hands shook. Oh my god, this would save her so much effort!
But did farming with a robot count as cultivation? Ah, whatever. This was the modern era. Cultivation had to keep up with the times too!
Jin Feifan stared at the farming robot, his eyes filled with longing.
When would he ever be able to make something this amazing himself?
