The voice bellowed, and everyone froze in their spots, that is, everyone except for Sarah. She nonchalantly turned to see Brandon, the Beta, coming out of the packhouse. He was a large man, even by werewolf standards, and the sheer force of his presence seemed to push the tension down several notches.
“Oh, Brandon, it’s you,” Sarah sighed in relief, the dramatic, high-pitched ordeal with Genie and her parents having completely exhausted her.
“That’s Beta Brandon to you!” Genie shouted at Sarah, her voice still raw from her fake crying performance.
“No, it’s not,” Brandon stated flatly, his gaze settling on Genie with an unimpressed squint. “Sarah has been given explicit permission to call me by my name.”
