Chapter 39 After the meeting adjourned and Allie had put the fear of God into the board members, she went into her office and resumed her usual work. Reading emails, answering messages, signing paperwork, and making sure Jesse didn’t accidentally sign something he wasn’t supposed to. Allie had buried herself in work to make the day go by faster. The faster she could leave, the better. Allie was starting to regret buying out the organization from Alexander’s family. Still, they had insisted because it would prevent Alexander from pulling any strings or finding loopholes, which was the only reason Allie had agreed. Allie was utterly buried—neck-deep in a landslide of paperwork and back-to-back phone calls—and she had completely missed lunch. Usually, skipping a single meal was no big deal
