Vince POV
I knew Lexa was special no doubt this was a whole new level, one that worried me. The implication that certain people had been able to convince themselves that a superior supernatural being was in Nevida City. It could cause unrest amongst the clan...not to talk of the probability of the clans seeking to weaponize her.
Ovaro knew this. He was worried too. We had to disperse this crowd as swiftly as possible before the Vampires came and blew the situation up. However, today wasn't my lucky day. My wolf immediately went on high alert as it sensed the presence of its mortal enemy. They were here already and there was an even more foul smell about them today.
I spun round and faced the clan leader. Monty Lerouk and his goons.
One of which, I could pin as the source of the foul smell. He looked sick too or even more dead than they truly were.
Clearing his throat. Monty said "You can smell him, can't you? He was attacked by this she-devil." Pointing to the painting on the wall.
I clenched my jaw but knew better than to act as though I knew who it was. So I deflected.
'We have news that vampires are back to seeking blood on the streets'.
Monty was visibly enraged by that statement, that was my aim. I needed to take the focus off Lexa for now at least.
" If it makes you feel better, the culprit was severely punished for that action", he said pointing at the sickly vampire. "Turns out what we are dealing with is a monster because theres no other explanation for this kind of injury on a vampire. I'm not here to bicker about whether it's right or not to feed on humans when we need to as vampires but table a case of security to the council." Monty said
I knew this was where he was headed. If my guesses were right..he had heard the story from the sick vampire and was trying to use the council meeting to instill a search to find Lexa. He sees this mystery girl as his ticket to making the Vampire clan more powerful.
'Monty, before a council meeting can be called. I will be needing to speak with the witnesses present at the incident. After that's done, we can arrange a meeting with all the facts in place." I said in a calm tone.
It was obvious tension was rising but he couldn't deny I was right.
"Absolutely, as long as one of my trusted advisors is present" Monty said.
I agreed and then we moved along. The sick vampire was escorted by my men, the human witness was also taken for questioning.
I thought back to Lexa and Mother, hoping everything was okay. A part of me had a feeling, more was coming but I was prepared to go any length to keep Lexa safe.
Mooncliff Towers**
Lexa POV
The Mooncliff gardens was something out of a movie, you wouldn't expect that such modern facilities could keep a garden as serene and green as the one I and Aria were walking in at the moment. I didn't have time to admire the scenery, I knew the reason for this meeting had something to do with what happened a few nights ago with Vince and me. So I waited for her to start.
'Do you believe in curses?' Aria said looking at pretty white rose flower near a water fountain. We were deep in the garden, away from the security detail that seemed to follow all Mooncliffs every where they went.
The question startled me. No. It stirred something inside me. A feeling of familiarity. I felt like I had heard this in my dreams and even in person from the people in my former pack.
'Yes, I'll say I do. I am a werewolf after all. That's proof that the supernatural exists.' I said.
Aria nodded her head in agreement, I presume.
'Ever wondered why you've never changed into your wolf form?' She asked next.
I froze.
'W-what? How do you know that?' I asked worried. I wasn't even sure I had mentioned this to Vince.
In a swift motion, she faced me and said 'You are cursed, Lexa. That's why your former pack treated you the way they did and wanted to perform that ritual. Do you see the effect it's having on Vince? You were cursed by a witch when you were a little girl.' Aria said in a flurry of words.
I felt my blood rush, my head started pounding. 'C-cursed by a witch??' I stuttered.
Was this what my dreams meant? Why I was treated like an outcast? No No No.....Was this why Vince had those migraines?
I didn't know when I had fallen to my knees. When I looked up at Aria with tears in my eyes, she took a few steps back from me.
'You're looking at me like they were. Like I'm some creature. What did I ever do to deserve this? A curse? What did my parents do? Who are they? Why me?' I started to cry and scream.
Aria tried to speak but I couldn't hear what she said. I was too sad.
One minute I think someone loves me, the next minute...I was being ambushed or being torn apart emotionally. It was all the same. My former pack, here too.
Soon I realised why I couldn't hear Aria, there was a storm forming. The winds seemed to centred around me. Why? No , I didn't want to hurt anyone. Not Vince's mother.
You can stop this. Close your eyes and focus. We can do this together. I heard my wolf say.
I hadn't heard her in a while. So I obeyed.
The guards were already coming around to observe what was going on.
The beautiful garden was already in disarray.
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and said 'Stop'. I didn't know if it would work.
Oh wait, it did!
I felt someone's arm on my shoulder, the way it passed warmth through my body. I knew whose it was.
It was my Vince.
I turned to look at him, his eyes mirroring my face and then it all went black.
