Four

There were three chains keeping her pinned. Two kept her hung to the roof, the remaining one kept her feet pinned to the floor. “You think you can escape, vampire slave?” The Alpha's voice rang across the dungeon. The first thing she did was look around, but there was no sign of Aspen. Sylvia barely spoke. The tears and sobs ran freely. “Please let my friend go. She has no part in this. I forced her to come along with me.” “I wouldn't worry about your friend. You should be worried more about what I will do to you if you don't tell me who was helping you escape.” Kelvin! She ought to rat him out right now! She looked across the room and there he was among the other guards making jeers at her. His hand went to his throat and he made a slice gesture before pointing to her. “Do you promise to release me if I expose this traitor?” “You have my word!” There was nothing to lose. This was how she was going to pay him back for betraying her! “It was your son, Kelvin!” All eyes turned to Kelvin! “Is this how you decide to treat your pack despite risking your life for them? You want to go down as the warrior who betrayed his pack?” Kelvin stepped forward. “Come on, dad. Would you believe this slave over me? I was the one who caught her running away and brought her here!” Had her hands not been pinned above her head, Sylvia would have covered her mouth with them. How could he tear over the truth in his favor?! “That's enough!” Silence fell! “Well, you ought to be thrown into a dungeon for lying to me!” Kelvin walked over and whispered to him. He nodded. “Well, instead of killing you, I assume you could be of use to the pack somehow. From now on you will be Kelvin's right-hand maid!” That judgment was final. She had faced and escaped death already. Trying to debate would be like putting herself in the line of fire once more. Kelvin, on the other hand, looked happy. His plan had worked. Now she was officially his maid. He could treat her however he wished. He turned to one of the guards. “She doesn't know how much I hate vampires. I'm going to make life so difficult for her.” This time Kelvin kept to his word. He made sure she wished she had never left that attic that night, wished she had never trusted him. He hates her kind. He hates her. “Please forgive me, I never meant to tell your father about you!” The piece of glass that had just missed her head lay in shards a couple of meters away from her. He reeked of alcohol. Oh, yes, to make it even worse, he drank. He would go out for hours and would return home soaked down to his brooch in liquor and ready to release his temper on her for no reason. “I warned you and you tested my patience. You wanted to see what I would do, right?” His eyes were red, bloodshot. There had been terrible nights, but the night looked like it was about to get a lot worse than its predecessors. “Please, I'm sorry! It happened a week ago. Please let it go.” “Let it go?! You, a common slave, dare raise your voice against me?! The only hatchet I will be burying will be in your skull.” Trimble would be an understatement. She looked like she was about to face execution. She managed to swerve her way to the door, but it was locked. No way out, she was as exposed as prey. His hand was raised in the air, ready to strike. This was it. This time it would no longer be a scar. It would take her life. “Open this door up now!” His hand was inches away from her fave when it stopped. No one could mistake the Alpha's cold, cruel tone! “Not a word of this,” Kelvin ordered, rising. He managed to put himself in order before stepping out to meet his father. As soon as he opened the door, the Alpha's dark figure appeared in the doorway. “For you to come bet me at this time of the night, you must have something important to say.” “You're right! Your brother is returning!” Kevin looked shocked, to say the least. His shoulder tensed. “When?” “Tomorrow!” Oh, great! Sylvia rolled her eyes. Another bad egg returns home to hatch. The announcement had Kelvin rattled. Why the hell was his brother back so early? “I thought he still had a few months left on his vacation? Why is he back so early?” He didn't care, more like curious as to why the hell his little brother would come rushing home all of a sudden! “News got to him that you were back, so he wanted to come and see you.” “Yeah, right. More like he wants to come and resume his struggle for the seat with me.” “I have not stepped down yet, and you're already fighting over the seat. I know what will teach you boys a lesson.” All this while, Sylvia had crept close, listening closely. Here comes another royal who exalts his ego over his word. He is probably worse than his brother. Sylvia sneaked out the back door to go meet with Aspen. Thankfully, the alpha had been gracious enough to spare her from getting killed. She let her friend in on the recent happenings. “I hope you have learned your lesson this time. Stay away from him!” Sylvia didn't have to be told twice. The last thing she would do was allow herself to get tangled up with anyone royal ever again! The next morning, the entire pack woke up to the announcement that the second Prince had arrived to the pack. It was a whole fanfare to welcome him. However, Sylvia stuck by the side of Aspen. “What is his name?” “Lucian!” A voice from behind replied. They both turned in terror seeing the newly arrived Prince.
