A Special Letter

1091 Words
Elizabeth ran downstairs, grabbing an apple as a quick breakfast. She kissed her dad on the cheek and quickly hugged her mom and said goodbye before bolting out the door. As she ran down the street she looked at her watch "no, no, no, Mr. Wilkins is gonna kill me" she was already ten minutes late to rehearsal for her dancing schools rehearsal for their production of sleeping beauty, and she was the prima ballerina. She had been so excited when the casting list came out and she had gotten the role of Aurora/ Sleeping Beauty. It was her first lead role and it was a big one. She didn't mind all the extra rehearsal and she was always on time, except for today. Today she had overslept and as soon as she had woken up she knew she was going to be in trouble. Mr. Wilkins, her usually nice teacher did not take well to late comers, especially ones that had slept . As she rushed through the door and into the studio she was surprised that she didn't hear music "they should have started by now". As she sat down and put on her pointe shoes she glanced at her watch that she had throwns in her bag, it read 8:15am and rehearsal started at 8. She stood up and warmed up her feet a little and as she did so she noticed that all the clocks on the studio walls said 7:50am "that can't be right" she said before remembering that she had set her clocks ahead by accident the night before. She sighed in relief, she had not slept in after all. She finished warming up and entered the studio, greeting Mr. Wilkins "good morning Mr. Wilkins" she said happily "good morning Lizzie, how's my star performer today?" He asked as she fixed a ribbon on her pointe shoe "very well thank you" she smiled and stood up. Less than a minute later three teenage boys walked in, she smiled at them. The tallest one, a Mexican boy with really pretty hazel eyes, walked over to her "morning little Lizzie" he said, using the nickname he gave her "good morning Peter" she said as she gave her friend a hug. The shortest of the three boys walked over as well "little Lizzie" he said as he laughed and gave her a hug "morning Tom" she said as she rolled her eyes. The middle boy then came over and gave her a hug as well "Danny I swear, if you call me little Lizzie I swear you will get a pointe shoe to the face" she said as she hugged back. After talking for a minute Mr. Wilkins broke them up "okay guys, I know today is a longer rehearsal but I promise it's for a good reason" he said as he set his dancers up, it was true, he had made this rehearsal twice as long, it would go for 5 hours "but it is because today you are learning the rose adagio" he said. Elizabeth's eyes went wide The Rose Adagio was her favorite dance in all of sleeping beauty, it was also the hardest for whoever played Aurora, the dance was 7 minutes long and would most likely take two hours to learn. Suddenly, as they were about to start practice, a certain Tyler Reynolds ran in "sorry I'm late sir, my moms car broke down" he said to Mr. Wilkins "it's okay Tyler, mistakes happen, now let's begin" Mr. Wilkins said. After five hours of rehearsal, Lizzie, Peter, Tyler, Tom, and Danny laid on the floor of the studio, exhausted. Lizzie sat up and looked at the boys "why are you so tired? I did all the work" she said, slightly exaggerating "what do you mean? We did a lot too you know" Tom said. It was true, they had all done quite a bit and were ready to go home and sleep. Lizzie stuck her tongue out at Tom as Mr. Wilkins walked back into the studio after getting the mail and he looked excited. Lizzie gave him a questioning look "Lizzie? Remember that application I sent to The Royal Ballet of London for you?" He asked, she nodded "well they responded!" He said happily as he held out a letter. Lizzie immediately jumped up "did you read it?" She asked as she took it from him "nope, I wanted you to do the honors" he said as the four other boys sat up curiously. Lizzie opened the letter and had to read it three times over to make sure she was reading it correctly "well? What does it say?" Danny asked, she looked at her friends, her eyes full of happiness "starting next dance season I will be training with The Royal Ballet of London!" She said excitedly. She was soon tackled in hugs from all around "I'm so proud of you Lizzie, you truly are my little star" Mr. Wilkins said as he enveloped her in a huge hug. After rehearsal Elizabeth ran home to tell her parents the good news. After she told them they were happy but had some questions "but how will you get there? I mean plain tickets aren't cheap" her father said "the company will pay for everything, airfare, accommodations, all my pointe shoes, I'm going on a full ride scholarship" Elizabeth said excitedly. Her father sighed in relief when he heard that "oh honey, we're so proud of you" her mom said "thanks mom" she said, happy to have her parents support "and i leave a week after the final performance of sleeping beauty" she added. Her parents talked her in hugs "we really are proud of you" her dad said "thanks guys" she said as she hugged back. -time skip- Sleeping Beauty had come and gone and the day came for Elizabeth to leave for London. As she entered the airport she was greeted by the happy sight of all her friends and family who came to say goodbye. After many tears, hugs, and kisses to her cheek the time came for Elizabeth to board her flight "goodbye everyone! I'll miss you!" She said as she walked through the terminal, she turned around one last time and waved to all of her friends and family before boarding the plain and finding her seat. It was a long flight to London so she put in her ear buds, closed her eyes, and dreamed of her future life with The Royal Ballet of London.
