Anita slowly woke up and felt a headache. She sat up from the bed in her room and brushed her hair aside while rubbing her face with her palm.
Time check; 7:00pm
She then realized she missed a call from Karen. Karen is Anita's best friend who is currently studying for her Master's degree in California. They've been best friends since High School days and the bond has been great despite the regular distance. She made a mental note to return the call as soon as she gets back from the hospital.
However, Anita has an appointment with the Doctor by 8pm today.
Realization dawned on her that she had overslept and she jumped out of the bed hurriedly, making a mental note to call Karen as soon as she's back. Moments later, she is dressed and ready to go to the hospital. Thankfully, her ride arrives promptly. Switching the light off, she does a mental check of ensuring that all appliances are in good condition and steps out of her house.
The ride was smooth except the constant bang her head was experiencing. She wished she could just fly to her destination so as to get there right in time for her appointment. Thankfully, she rushed into the hospital and was relieved when she got to know that her appointment had not been canceled. She entered the Doctor's office, took a deep breath and sat in front of him.
The Doctor on duty today is a specialist and she had to book the appointment three months earlier because he is a renowned Doctor who goes out of the country at regular intervals for work. Hence, the busy schedule.
'Good evening young lady, you are ten minutes late for your appointment today.
'Good evening to you too. I sincerely apologize. I got back late from work, was so exhausted and I overslept. I deeply apologize'. She replied.
It's alright. Just ensure you get lots of rest and learn to balance your work routine and rest hour.
'Oh yeah, definitely. Will do.'
'Great'
'How's my father doing?'
'He is getting better and he is beginning to respond to treatment. That, for me, is a big win at the moment. In the next few weeks, he should be good to go and ready to be discharged.'
'Oh wow! This is the best news I've heard today' Anita said while smiling so brightly at the Doctor. Her excitement and joy was visibly evident.
'Thank you so much Doctor, I really do appreciate your efforts'
'You are welcome young lady'
'So can I see him now?' She asked with bright eyes and obvious enthusiasm.
'Sure, you can. Kindly see the Nurse on your way out for necessary directions'
She picked her bag from her lap, stood and hung the strap of her bag on her shoulder while proceeding to step out of the Doctor's office.
After barely taking three footsteps, she staggered, slipped and fell backwards on the chair.
Doctor Jayden was shocked, he reached out towards her to prevent her from falling while standing up with a very fast speed but he couldn't save her from falling on the floor.
Rushing towards her as she lay on the floor, he tried to feel her pulse and heartbeat and confirmed she was still conscious. Then he carried her straight out of the office while motioning for a Nurse to follow him. Within a few minutes, a bed space was set for her, and she was revived.
However, she was too weak to speak and she just stared into space. Jayden sat beside her bed and tried to make her talk so as to confirm that she had no memory loss. He noticed earlier that she hit her head against the chair. He instructed the Nurse to get her something to eat and drink while he moved back to his office.
Back in his office, he continued to pace up and down as he was not mentally settled. Just then, her phone rang. He then realized her bag was still on the floor. He picked the phone and saw the caller's ID - 'Karen bestie.'
He proceeded to her bed space to give her the phone and discovered she was fast asleep. With worry written all over his facial expressions and gesticulation, he sat on the chair across her bed and stared at her face while she slept. He noticed her long eyelashes and slender body. Even though her skin looked smooth and shiny, she had the disposition of a young child who is trying to take in so much more than she can handle. Even in her sleep, the worry was still evident.
A Nurse walked in with a file and a pen in her hands.
'Sir, how do I record the information for this patient?' She asked.
'Oh, I didn't think of that earlier, hold on. Her father is the patient in Room C24 actually, they should have similar bio data.' When she wakes up, you can sort that out actually.' He replied.
Just then, the phone rang again. Same caller.
At this point, a thought flashed across his mind.
'Hello, good evening. This is Doctor Jayden from Chevron Hospital. Your friend fainted a while ago so she cannot speak to you at the moment.' He stated.
'Oh my goodness! What happened to Anita? Is she okay?
'She is perfectly fine and she just needs some rest.'
'Thank goodness, please take good care of her okay?'
'I'll need some information about her and I'll like you to help with that, can you?'
'Oh yes, sure,' Karen replied.
'Her full name?'
'Anita Rosewood'
'Date of birth?'
'July 15th, 1998'
'Occupation?'
'Secretary at Brents'
'pardon?'
'Secretary to the CEO at Brents' Fashion Company' she repeated
'Oh wow,' he muttered
'Next of kin?'
'That should be me, Karen Muffin' She replied
'Email address and phone number please?'

'Alright, that's all for now, thank you so much for your time Madam Karen.' He said as he scribbled the last four digits on his notepad.
'Please take good care of my girl. You are welcome.'
'I'm doing my best.'
'Bye for now.'
'Bye'
Walking briskly to the door, he glanced at Anita once again and he noticed the movement of her left leg. He stood still and waited a little longer, before heading out to get a transfer of her details to the file.
'You can discharge her as soon as she is awake and able to have a normal conversation.
Remember to tell her to rest well and work on having a better diet so as to avoid another reoccurrence.' He said to the nurse as he stepped out of the ward.’
What a day he has had!
He headed to his office for a little bit of relaxation and left for home afterwards.
