Maya watched Lila tape up boxes. "This is so petty. I’m obsessed."
Lila slapped a label on one: `KITCHEN - DUMP HIS ESPRESSO MACHINE`. "He said 'come home'. So I’m coming home."
"To his penthouse?" Maya asked. "The glass one with security?"
"The very one," Lila said. "He wants a fiancée? He gets all of me. Me, Leo, and my coffee grinder."
Maya sipped her latte. "And Evelyn?"
Lila smiled. Sharp. "Especially Evelyn."
Her phone buzzed.
`Damian: We need to talk about last night. Come to the office.`
`Lila: I’m busy. Moving in.`
She didn’t wait.

*CROSS PENTHOUSE*
The penthouse was all glass and white. White couch. White walls. One lonely plant that looked depressed.
Lila dropped the first box in the middle of the living room.
Leo ran to the windows. "Mommy, we can see the whole city!"
"I know, baby," Lila said. "Go pick your room."
She stared at the kitchen. Cold steel. No warmth.
`Unacceptable.`
Movers came and went.
Red rug in the living room.
Coffee station in the corner. Her grinder, her beans, her mug that said `WORLD’S BEST MOM`.
Photos on the walls. Leo’s drawings on the fridge.
Her spices next to his fancy oils.
She was painting one wall deep navy when the door opened.
Damian.
He stopped. Took in the boxes. The crib in the guest room. The tiny shoes by the door. The smell of coffee.
"What is this?" Damian asked.
"Home," Lila said, not looking up. "You told me to come home."
"This is my penthouse."
"Was," Lila corrected. She turned, paint on her cheek. "Now it’s ours."
Damian picked up a mug from the new coffee station. `PROPERTY OF LILA’S BREWS`.
"You moved in without asking," he said.
"You announced me without asking," Lila said. "We’re even."
He set the mug down. "Evelyn saw the photos. From the gala."
"Good."
"Lila—"
"No." Lila put the roller down. "You want to know what this is? This is me not hiding. This is me in your space. In your life. In your son’s life."
Damian was quiet. Then: "Leo likes it here?"
"He picked the room with the big window. Said it’s for 'superhero watching'."
Something softened in Damian’s face. "He said that?"
"Yes." Lila crossed her arms. "Problem?"
Damian looked out at the city. Then at her navy wall. At the mess. At her.
"No," he said quietly. "No problem."

*DINNER*
Lila was cooking. Garlic and coffee-rubbed steak filled the penthouse.
Damian came in from work, still in his suit. He stopped in the doorway.
Leo was at the counter "helping" with pancake batter.
Music playing low.
The white couch now had a red throw blanket.
"This is... different," Damian said.
"Dinner’s almost ready," Lila said. "Wash your hands."
Damian laughed. Actually laughed. "Yes, ma’am."
They ate together. All three.
Leo between them, rambling about school.
After, when Leo was asleep, Damian found Lila wiping the counter.
"You’re really staying?" Damian asked.
"Unless you kick me out," Lila said.
"I’m not going to kick you out."
"Good," Lila said. "Because I’m not done redecorating."
Damian raised an eyebrow. "What else?"
"Your office," Lila said. "It’s depressing. Needs plants. And color."
"My office is fine."
"It’s not," Lila said. "And I’m coming with you. To work."
Damian stared. "To the board meeting?"
"To the board meeting," Lila confirmed. "Fiancée privilege."
Damian ran a hand through his hair. "You’re impossible."
"I know," Lila said. She stepped closer. "Do you want me to leave?"
Damian looked at the navy wall. The coffee station. Leo’s drawing on the fridge.
"No," he said. "I want you to stay."
Lila nodded. "Then get used to the chaos."
She walked toward the bedroom. Stopped. "Oh. And I’m taking half the closet."
Damian watched her go.
Then he looked around.
It didn’t feel empty anymore.

*THE SPOT - LATER*
Maya: "So? Did he kick you out?"
Lila, holding coffee: "No. He made me breakfast."
Maya choked. "WHAT."
"Burnt toast," Lila said, grinning. "But he tried."
Maya leaned back. "Enemy Lila. Phase 2 complete."
Lila nodded. "Phase 3 next."
"Which is?"
"Board meeting," Lila said. "I’m sitting at the head of the table."
Maya raised her mug. "To war."
"To war," Lila clinked.
Her phone buzzed.
`Damian: Car’s downstairs. Don’t wear paint.`
Lila smiled.
`Lila: Too late.`
